Sirens boomed through the air as red flashed throughout the mansion, men running up and down, probably not able to differ us from them due to our clothing.
I was left with Greg when he sent Alex with instructions to find Andrew and stay with him, helping him find a way out.
We reached the basement, the tall metal door shielding the crates of guns. I knew that the rival's men would be here and, well, I had to add an effect so. . .
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up!" I urged, tapping my foot anxiously.
He paid no regard to my words as he hooked back his gun calmly and shifted his hand to take the card out. . . . . . only to find it missing.
My insides were urging me to laugh as wickedly, humanly possible. But to say the least, I was anxious to get out of here. Tim's side or not, I crossed a territory and I was bound to get killed because of it.
"Well, what's wrong!? We need to go quickly!" I pushed as the colours drained from his face.
He murmured something about this never happening before but his teal eyes quickly snapped at me and within a second, I was pushed against the wall with my hands wrapped together around my back.
"WHERE IS IT!?" he shouted in my ear.
"Where is what?" I asked in a heavy voice as my head ached with the impact against the wall. He shuffled through all my pockets, trying to find something that was, thank God, not with me.
He quickly turned me around, holding me from my biceps as his eyes glowered at me. "Where. Is. It?"
Pretending to look terrified from this being in front of me, I answered, "Where is what? I don't even know what you're talking about. We're going to get caught. We need to get the crates quickly so stop this."
He breathed heavily and was about to say something when footsteps could be heard. I froze in my place.
Shaking myself out of it quickly, "We need to leave this place, now!"
He nodded, not quite happy with me giving orders and also due to his suspicion.
We ran.
That was all we could do as men hurled towards us like a raging storm. Twisting and turning through the corridors, my eyes caught Alex who I immediately grabbed by the arm, pushing him to run with us."Why are you here?"
"He left me," he whispered. "Andrew left me behind to die when they all started coming."
There was betrayal laced in his voice and I wished to tell him that we can't ever trust people with our lives.
Using the boost of adrenaline, I pumped my feet harder, aiming my gun at their feet or arms, anything that would slow them down.
No killing.
That was the prize I'm saving for one special person. The truck came into the view, the backside opening for us as Andrew started the engine. Throwing ourselves into the container, I grabbed the shutter and closed it, only in time before the bullets hit us. Something caught my attention as both Alex and Greg tried to get up—the card, the key.
It had slipped out of where Alex had tucked it. Using my foot, I slid it under one of the boxes that were there. I sighed with relief as it disappeared from my vision.
A yelp raised my awareness to my surrounding. Alex was bleeding.
His leg got shot in the hustle most probably while the rest of us were unharmed. But Greg didn't care about it. He simply walked towards him, grabbing him from his collar, lifting him up in the air and shaking him cold-heartedly.
"WHERE IS IT, YOU BASTARD!? Where did you hide it!? Tell me before I kill you!!!"
I got up, my inside fuming as if the hot air inside me wanted to escape in the form of my anger.
"Dude, stop. The kid's hurt and you're making it worse!" I yelled at him, nudging Alex out of Greg's grasp, which made him fall down due to the pain.
"I don't give a shit! The key was with me and it couldn't have made such a mistake."
"Well, you can't shout at people who you aren't sure that even if they did it or not."
"Fine."
Grabbing my wrists in one hand, he checked all my pockets and hole and gaps where I could've hidden the card. Finding none, he moved to the boy in pain, checking him as well.
When he found nothing, he groaned-growled in frustration. He slammed his hand on the wall of the container we were in, indicating Andrew to bring the truck to a halt. He got out the minute it stopped and went to Andrew.
I grinned with happiness but it disappeared when I saw Alex lying on the ground.
I made my way to him quickly, ripping a piece of my shirt to tie his wound with it. His lower lip trembled as I did so.
I felt pity for him, his life became a mess so quickly. I put his head on my lap. He quickly buried his face into it and I felt my trousers feel wet from his tears. Making a hushing voice, I stroked his hair to calm him down.
"It hurts. . . it hurts so bad."
It hurts.
I had said those words too, when I woke up in the hospital before finding out that I lost Talia."I know. I know."
Clutching on the fabric of my trousers, he broke into sobs. "Please, PLEASE, take this pain away. It hurts so bad. I can't. I'm not strong enough. I don't want to be here. . . please, get me out of this."
"I will."
"All I ever wanted was to have a happy life with my mother but now... she's gone. Now, I just want to be happy. Isn't that every humans' right? To be given happiness? To be happy? Then why wasn't I given it? What did I do to not get it? Why am I this frail? Why? Why? Why!?"
I couldn't help but let a few of my own tears slip as he just whispered one thing again and again: "I just want to be happy."
"You will be. I promise."

"How could you have dropped it somewhere!?" Tim shouted at Greg.
"I told you, someone took it," Greg countered.
This had been happening for the past half an hour.
After dropping Alex to Aaron, I had to go to meet Tim with the rest of the two. When we entered, Tim was fuming and it was close to scaring me.
Close."Then prove it!" Tim shouted at his second in command. "No one's that big of a fool to mess with you, knowing that you could kill them in a blink. You're the one who messed up! Just accept it and your punishment wouldn't be that terrible."
"how am I supposed to prove it? All the pockets are empty! See?"
He opened each pocket and showed his boss the only proof he could give but in the very pocket where the key was, it was back there.
Did I forget to mention that I put it back there while we were heading to see Tim Parker in his office.
Silence stretched all around us as Andrew and I shared a questioning look even though mine was fake.
Tim glared at Greg who had turned as white as a ghost. With a snap of his fingers, Tim's men took Greg away.
Cold ran down my back as I let out a shaky breath, going back to check on Alex after being dismissed.
