Count down to the end.
2I woke up to the beeping of the medical machines that surrounded me. My head ached a little as the bright light burned my eyes. From the side, I could hear the sound of the television and I turned to see who it was.
I didn't recognize her.
On, the sofa next to the window sat a girl with bronze skin and glasses with big eyes who was watching TV with her undivided attention and . . . eating a hell lot of chocolates.I tried to get up but the effort went in vain, leaving me whimpering in the same position.
My whimpers caught the girl's attention who snapped her head towards me, her dark eyes meeting mine.
"Oh my God! You're awake!"
She quickly got up but dropped the bowl of chocolates that was in her hands. "Shit!" she mumbled audibly while crouching down to pick them up.
"Shit!" she said it again when her glasses dropped while she was getting up.
"I am so sorry. This is not how I wanted you to meet me. I-uh-I am Ophelia. I know. I'm not the first face you'd want to see after waking up. I'll, uh, call them."
With the mere awkwardness, she slipped out of the room quickly.
I sighed heavily, feeling tired still. I almost yelped when the door burst open and my gaze met Blayze's. He was a mess—his hair as if not brushed for ages, his eyes still blood shot.
He rushed towards my side and cupped my face. "Astrid. . ." he whispered, uncertainty in his voice.
"Yes, Blayze. It's me. I'm awake," I replied softly, using every ounce of energy in me to pass him a weak smile.
He searched my face, his eyes being a storm of emotions. He rested his head on my chest and I let my hand brush through his hair.
I felt him bawl on my shirt which confused me. "Shh, Blayze, everything's alright. I'm here now."
His green orbs met mine, holding a wild look in them. "But our baby isn't. and it's all my fault."
I felt my body stiffen at those words. "Who—who told you?"
"I did."
Turning my head a little, I saw Aaron and Rex walk in. Blayze straightened besides me, not bothering to turn towards the men who just came in.
"Why?" I asked Aaron. I wanted to do it myself, so I could handle him, make him feel better, making him think that it wasn't the end of everything.
"He wouldn't stop asking questions. You've been this way for five days Astrid and it was feeding his temper. He wasn't ready to believe that we were on your side and then interrogating us about it to be sure. One of those questions was about your child and, well, he wouldn't let that question go unanswered."
Blayze glowered at him. He wasn't angry at him; he was just mad at the information they had given to him.
"It's okay, Blayze. It's gone and we can't do anything about it. We're together now, that's more important."
I knew that I was lying to him and so did he. The unborn child would always leave a mark on us but we had to move on someway.
"MY BABY SISTER IS BACK!"
Everyone's gaze swept towards Jackson who entered the room with a huge basket in his hand which was full of chocolates. He emptied the basket all over my blanket and then ran to my side a fell on me.
