Greg was the man Tim Parker trusted to no extent. He was his second-in-command but usually did most of his dirty work which he didn't mind doing.
But Greg was much cleverer than Tim, in other words, an obstacle in my path. To remove him would be difficult but I had no other option.
It was my first mission that we were heading to and we were being transported in a truck. Just four of us were going—two in the front, one of which was Greg—and two in the back where I was with another boy who was probably younger than me, shaking from head to toe.
I tilted my head towards him. He had light brown hair that reached his hazel eyes that were slightly darker than my brother's eye and were full of fear.
"You're new here?" I asked him in a dull tone.
He nodded. "I-I haven't ever killed everyone, ever." leading me to ask another question. "What made you end up in this shit?"
"H-He saw me steal because I... I couldn't pay for my mom's medications. Said he'll pay for them if I helped him so I agreed. When he brought me here, he told me that—that it was better to not pay for someone who's dead rather than pay for someone as useless as my mom."
"Oh."
This. . . was sad. He was shaking all over and I could see him bite his lower lip to hold back his sob.
"What's your name?"
"A-Alex..."
"Want to get out of this shit, Alex?"
He looked at me stunned as I raised my hand for him to shake. "I have a plan. It's a little slow but it'll work. All you need is some patience and trust. What do you think?"
"I-I don't know what to say..."
"The name's Astrid. So, are you in?"
He nodded anxiously and it made me smile. "You said you were good at stealing right. Meaning good at being a great cat burglar. Well, I have a task for you and it involves stealing."
"I'm listening."
"Our plan—as Tim's Recruits is to enter... whoever's house we're entering, right? We're going there to take a few crates of guns they have. The break in is easy since the security is shit but the hard task is where the man keeps his guns. A room of Solid walls and a steel door so thick that it can't be broken. Now, this person has no idea that Tim had a spare copy of his key and that key is with Greg right now. It's in his belt's left pocket, close to the back. Don't ask me how I know but you have to take it out."
"What...!? But why?"
"Calm down and listen. After that, when Greg's done with all the "Where did it go? I had it. Who has it?" he'll check us all. I'll get checked first so when he turns to check you, I can take the key by then, okay. Tricky, I know but it has to work. Then will be a session of facing Tim Parker's wrath. He'll be disappointed in his most trusted man. By then, I'll have shoved the key back into his pocket so it looks like he messed up big time."
"But I don't get it," Alex asked. "Why so all of this?"
"Because what we are doing may be slow but it will shatter Tim inside out."

"Alright, you've got the plan. Andrew—" Pointing at the other guy besides him "—will go first to distract one of them so we can get in. I'm sure you remember the map of the house I showed you. The room is in the basement but two floors down. Don't get distracted at all. Get the crates, move them into the truck, kill anyone who comes in the way, do not try to act over-smart. Understood?"
Ha, as if. "Of course."
The truck stood just a few meters away from the house which reminded me a lot of my home. My eyes burned with the memories that were replaying in the back of my mind but I was quickly snapped out of it.
We needed to start our plan out.
Grabbing the belt that I needed to carry my bullets in as I watched the other guy stroll towards the house, I said, "Uh, Greg, I don't know how to put this on. I've never worn one and I was clearly Not taught this in my training sessions with Chase."
His teal eyes met mine as he shrugged. "It's easy. Do it yourself."
"Excuse me, have you seen how many straps this thing has. I don't even know which one is supposed to go where."
Rolling his eyes while tying his black hair in a pony tail he snatched it from my hand. "Pampered princess, that's what you are."
"Then treat me like one."
My main purpose was to distract him for long enough for Alex to grab the key. He stood right behind Greg, his hazel eyes locked at the targeted pocket.
Distraction. "Ah, it's too tight! My god-damned stomach! Loosen iiitt!" I shrieked, wriggling in Greg's grasp to my belt.
"Shut up and stand straight, idiot. Let me loosen it."
Alex reached out for the pocket that very minute, his fingers slowly unbuttoning the belts pocket.
Greg turned towards him, already done with my belt. I was so intrigued in him taking it out that I forgot to irritate him so he'd take longer time.
"What do you want, boy."
All the colours seemed to drain from Alex's face as he started to stutter.
"I-I don't kno-w how to-to load t-the g-g-un. Can you do it f-for me?"
Greg rolled his eyes after narrowing them at the kid but didn't take him as a threat. After all, he did look like he was going to faint since the minute he got in the truck.
Snatching the gun out of his hand, murmuring something about having idiots do such an important mission, he started to load the empty gun.
Five bullets. That's all the time he needed to load the gun. That's all the time Alex needed to slip his index and middle finger into the already opened pocket.
The key.
It wasn't even a key. It was a passing card which makes it easier to understand how Tim Parker got his hands on it.
He must have killed whoever it belonged to.
"Here you go," Greg informed, turning towards the boy who had just hidden the card between his left armpit, taking the gun from the other.
"Now get in your position. You're going to have to go to Andrew because he'll need help to get away. As for you little princess, you're coming with me."
His tone seemed so smug that I wanted to laugh but I wouldn't want to give out our plan, now would I?
Yourthoughts people.
