Sun Girl

30 7 2

she steps onto cobbled paths

treads on dangerous sidewalks

she stumbles on broken tree logs

and thrives under the dancing sun rays

that have blessed her with her light

she smiles even when she is taunted

and tells them that'll it'll be alright

she won't let pain to steal her sight

she does not know how far she'll go

across countries, with or without snow

with imagination and heart with her in tow

she is scared, but won't let anyone know

and when she first falls down

she can't help but feel scared and alone

were the cobblestone paths getting too much for her?

was the sun destined to someday abandon her?

the thought is too much, and so is the fear

it overwhelms her, and she lets out a tear

she starts disappearing into shadows, cold and grey

she won't let anyone know that the sun feels dismay

perhaps it's time to finally move on

she knows she's done enough, yet she feels torn

but the light inside her was what she was destined to be

so she packs up and leaves her friends to be free

she doesn't want to leave

but despite that, she has no choice

she had to spread joy, even if she was sick

after all, she was just the sun girl with a mystery

that's all she would ever be.

This poem was kind of inspired by the 'Bridge of Terabithia', which I'm currently watching as an extended break because I don't know how to revise for History :'') If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them! Also, what are your thoughts on these kinds of poems? Would you like to see more? Thank you for reading and have a lovely day ahead <3
