he dances along to a waltz alone at night
the music is cheerful but he's turned off the light
he seems to be drowning in conflicting emotions
and his guests are just a flurry of decisions

his feet go 'tap, tap, tap', a rhythm on the ground
his floors may be brave but they long to be found
they were built for withstanding overwhelming happiness
but now all they'll do is try to bear his pain and emptiness

and he spins around, and curtsies to a girl he'll never meet
the bangles he's used to wearing have slid off his tired feet
but he doesn't notice as he whispers a 'thank you'
ghosts of the past pity him, that much still stands true
but they never reply, and so he continues to a new tune

he's started to do this daily, both in the day and the night
his parents try to find him suitors but they never feel right
and so he starts to give up hope as he dances to a hopeless tune
maybe he was destined to die, alone and very blue

but one day, the music stops and pain comes to an end
his true love arrives and oh, she's heavensent
her laughs are like pearls and they sound like music
and so he finds himself dancing, his spirit finally happy

because for the first time, he doesn't dance alone
his imagery partner has now become its own
and so the ballrooms seem to have found life again
if this were a story, it would be the perfect end

but like any other story, love is something he'd never own
he's been away from earth so long that his charm is a loan
and before he can muster his courage, his love had long flown
he watches out of the window, hoping that she'd come back
but she didn't, and suddenly he feels his heart crack

and just as soon as love came, it had danced itself away
his parents try to soothe him, but he makes no delay
he returns to the ballroom, this time filled with sorrow
as he dances to the tune of tomorrow

and although his parents watch with a broken heart
they know there's nothing to do but to accept his luck
because all the life inside of him had long drowned out
he's lost all hope in finding another way out

because even princes don't have their promised lives
all one can do is give up and dance to painful jibes
it's a cycle that never ends
a cycle where even royalty cannot make amends

sorry that the ending is a bit disappointing + for the short break! i just feel tired — not just physically, but of everyone and everything around me. i know i'm fortunate to have what i have right now, but with exams and the coronavirus + life in general, i just feel exhausted? i hope you don't mind hhh !!  I'll try to be more consistent :<
