I went to the bathroom immediately, splashing water on my face before looking at myself in the mirror. Today's the first day, then. The first day of work with... it. Him? I don't even know...
I walked back to my room and put on one of the maid uniforms, tying my hair back with a piece of string. Works for now, so let's go.
I found the butler already at work in the kitchen, preparing the breakfast tea. I stood there for a few seconds by the door, waiting for him to notice me. But he didn't. I cleared my throat. Still nothing, even a minute later. After five minutes passed by like this, I tilted my head, confused. Was he just ignoring me? Or did he not know I was here? Mr. Demon butler...? Helloooo?
"Hello?" I asked, approaching the kitchen counter.
He quickly snapped around, throwing a slim, silver object at me. I yelped and ducked, rolling behind the kitchen island to hide. I heard a thunk behind me and turned my head to see a butter knife half-embedded in the kitchen wall. Whelp, I'm dead.
"K-knife?!" I squeaked, still hiding. I heard footsteps approach me as he came around the counter and I turned my head away from the embedded knife to look up at him. He wore quite the dangerous expression, as if he were a monster determined to kill a small rat. I took a quick glimpse down at his hand to see him wielding several more kitchen knives.
Eep.
"I-It's just me! Eve!"
I saw the recognition appear in his eyes a few moments later as the demonic aura receded "...Don't be so quiet."
"Quiet?"
"Yes," he nodded. I raised an eyebrow and he continued, "I apologize, I didn't hear you come in. It's my natural instinct to kill things that sneak up on me. Here," he held his empty hand out to me to help me up.
"I'm not that quiet..." I huffed and looked away, pursing my lips.
"Silent as a mouse," he said and urged me to take his hand again, eyebrow raised. I hesitated a moment before sighing, feeling the last of my nerves shake off as he pulled me to my feet.
"Thanks."
He let go of my hand and walked around the island, pulling out a drawer. I watched him carefully, legs prepared to run just in case he decided to throw one of those five knives at me.
What's he looking for? An evil spell? More deadly silverware? A curse? A curse me to hold still so he can throw another knife at me and I can't dodge?
After shuffling around in the drawer for a moment, he pulled his hand back with a piece of paper in it. He set it on the table and pushed it across to me, "These are your duties for the day. Please don't break anything."
I raised an eyebrow again, pursing my lips with suspicion as I took up the list.
Eve
Dust library
Wash first floor wood floors
It was just a list. Thank God. And these were fairly basic tasks.
I nodded to myself, taking the list and tucking it into my apron, "Alright, anything else for now?"
"That is all," he said, dismissing me as he went back to preparing tea.

I nodded and left, going to what I assumed was the cleaning closet in the main hallway. I grabbed a feather duster from it and headed up to the library.
