"...been a awhile, hasn't it?"
"Snow! It snowed!"
I opened my eyes groggily that morning, yawning loudly before sitting up. For some reason, the three were making an obnoxious amount of noise in the backyard.
"It's snow, yes!"
Snow? Did it snow?! I quickly scrambled out of bed, suddenly exicted.
"Eep!"
I stepped on something as I touched the ground, and the object quickly rolled out from under my foot. My face hit first the ground and I groaned, not fully comprehending what just happened. After a few moments, I rolled over and sat up, rubbing my face. Pain bloomed on my forehead and I groaned again before opening my eyes, looking around for whatever I stepped on.
A pair of golden eyes twinkled at me from underneath the bed.
What? I quickly shook my head and peered closer. It was still there. The distinct outline of a cat looking at me.
Good morning, Evelyn Rose Amelia Loftus. Then the shadow disappeared.
"Evelyn... Loftus... What?" I mean, that was my name, but who said it? Cats didn't talk, or at least, they normally didn't.
"Hey cat, come back. We need to talk. You shouldn't be here."
I waited a few moments for it to reappear but got nothing. I sighed, wondering if I was finally starting to lose my mind, before standing and going over to the window. Cold teased my fingertips as I raised them up to the curtains and I pulled them back, a huge smile appearing on my face.
Winter, my favorite time of the year, had officially arrived. Snow covered the entire grounds. I was slightly surprised though as a giant pile of snow rose in front of the house, and was moving up and down as if something were under it. Was that the hell hound? If so, snow, please freeze him to death.
I turned around and ran to my dresser, throwing on my clothes for the day. Today was my official day "off," so I didn't have to wear the maid uniform. Instead, I put on a thicker blue dress, whose skirt fell down to my ankles. I then put on some white wool tights and the boots before dashing out of the room, excited to go outside.
I swung open the front door, only to be met by a particular frigid gust of cold wind. Immediately, I slammed the door shut again. This is colder than usual for December. I turned to the coat closet and ruffled around in it for a few minutes before finding a decent-looking cloak. It was coarse and black, perfect for the chilly winter air.
I pulled the hood up and walked outside, smiling this time as the cloak blocked out the chilling wind.
Winter was truly a beautiful season. A soft blanket of white covered the earth, making the front lawn look like a fluffy marshmallow. Above, the sun shone bright in the sky, with barely a cloud in sight. It's light reflected off the snow, making the ground sparkle like crystals. I took a deep breath, and the sharp, refreshing scent of ice and cold hit my nose. A smile naturally found its way onto my face.
"Eve!" I heard Finny say and looked down into the yard to see him running toward me. I smiled, taking my first step onto actual snow. It crunched deliciously under my feet, already partially frozen.
Wait, there was snow on the patio still? The smile suddenly disappeared and I looked around. Sebastian was no where in sight. Wouldn't he have shoveled all this by now?
I didn't take the man for granted, usually, but it was times like these that I felt he should have already done his job.
"Eve! It snowed, yes!"
