An Apparition

I reached the servant's door on the side of the house and decided to go in through there rather than the front door, as it was more convenient. Once inside, I stomped my boots on the rug andn looked around the kitchen. Bard wasn't here, so I assumed that he was still... preoccupied by the hell hound.

Something else was here though. A black cat sat on the countertop. I blinked before peering closer. Its edges seemed blurry, as if it weren't exactly there. Unusual golden eyes gazed regally into mine as its tail curled daintily around its paws. On its chest was a small white spot that resembled a glowing, white moon.

It was the thing from under my bed earlier.

The cat leaped off the countertop and walked toward me, looking up at me curiously. I didn't move, worried what might happen if I did. For some reason, the creature was familiar, as if we'd know each other for a very long time. When it came to a stop in front of me, I knelt down and picked it up, cradling it in my arms.

"Evelyn," I heard a voice say as I did. It was the same voice from this morning.

I looked up and listened to see if there was any one nearby. There wasn't. The cat was the one speaking. Wonderful, just another strange creature that I totally needed in my life. I do wonder why I feel so familiar with though? Why is it presenting itself again?

I looked down at it again, "You're speaking to me, right?"

"Yes. Do you know why?"

I had to purse my lips, "Not particularly."

The cat twitched its tail against my arm. I felt a familiar rush of power cross the surface of my skin. I frowned. This is my Cat Sith, isn't it?

"Judging by the expression on your face, you realize who I am now."

I nodded, "But why are y- wait. I'm going to save my questions. Can you disappear again for a moment so I can take us somewhere private, if that's alright with you? I don't want anyone catching me talking to you."

"Nobody can see me, but yes, it'd probably be good if people didn't think of you as insane." With that, the cat sith appeared to disappear into my chest. I felt its warmth spreading through my body again and shivered. I hadn't realized how cold I was without it.

Shaking my head slightly, I strode out of the kitchen to head upstairs to my room, thinking to myself.

The Cat Sith... why was it physically manifesting? It's never done that before. Did it want something from me aside from fish and bullying the hell hound? I mean, obviously, otherwise it wouldn't be doing anything like this. And I didn't even mind doing all that stuff either. After all, fish are good and the mutt is... disgusting. It still doesn't put on clothes ever.

Am I over using it without having a contract set up? But it hasn't had any qualms with my use of it's powers so far. And I haven't really abused its gifts, or pushed them beyond what I thought was acceptable. Sebastian said that its presence in me was a gift from a witch. It could be that the length of the gift was "expiring," but was that even a thing? Was it trying to see if I still wanted it or not, and establish an actual contract from there? But still... physically manifesting? It seemed really strange.

A hand suddenly gripped my shoulder, jerking me out of my thoughts. I turned my head to see Sebastian looking down at me.

"Oh, um, yes?" I asked.

"Is there a problem?" he asked, frowning.

"What do you mean?" I was genuinely confused.

"Your eyebrows were stitched together, and you didn't acknowledge my presence when we passed in the hall. I was wondering if there was something wrong."
