"mom!" jason screamed as he ran down the stairs, his hair a mess. his blue eyes looked frantic, while rosey rolled her eyes and sat at the dining table.

"ugh," rosey muttered. "i wish you would shut up for once. wait, jess is at the door. bye mom!" she gives me a vague hug and runs out of the door.

"did you prepare my lunch?" jason goes up to me and i nod.

"it's in the fridge darling," i open the fridge and he picks out a sandwich and a juice box.

"k," he smiles now. "where's mom?"

"emma?" i ask and he nods. "she's upstairs. she'll be down soon, she just started sleeping."

"typical," jason laughs. "love you. see you after school!" he runs off as i finish washing the dishes.

"morning," the familiar raspy voice says. "did rose leave with her girlfriend already?"

"yup," i smile at her. "gay couples do raise gay kids." she laughs.

"any chance jason's gay?" i ask. i shrug.

"he might be bi," i suggest. "but he might fall into a lot of other categories, you know?" she nods.

"i just hope the grow up happy," she wraps her hands around my waist. "so they won't have to go through all the things we went through."

"i hope nobody would experience anything like the things we went through," i answer.

it probably isn't the happily ever after for you, but anytime with emma is a happily ever after for me.
