In Twilight Among Towers
In the twilight,
She dreams again of the moment
When she no longer retreats
In fear like an echo from the far wall of a canyon
A ghost
An image
A shell of the promises
Life held out to her long before,
She dreams of bold desires
And the rushing rapids
Of youthful exuberance
That once found purpose shaped by determination
A river, broad and fine and still
Until battered by indifference
Severed by synthetic needs
And artificial desires that filled
Sleepless nights among dominant towers
And frightened howls of souls
She dreams of the moment more often now,
Of returned respect
Of forgotten regret
Of all things granted
She dreams of these things more often now
And not alone
