"Hey, you're here
without a wheelchair
today,"
the secretary
in the Counseling Office
at school greets me.I laugh, though I don't want
to talk about
the last time I was here
at school.I just want to move on
and resume being
Emma,
Student Council member,
Service Club leader,
Bayview's signature
always seen on the floor girl. But maybe not that last part.
I used to lay on the ground
because high school
is exhausting
and I had way more fun
laying next to Cadence,
whining about how hard
Mr. Haussen's class is
and how we are
way stressed out
about
planning Bayview's
Christmas extravaganza:
Merry and Bright. Now I lay on the floor
because life is exhausting
and my body can't take it
so it collapses;
During football games.
During Physics.
While I'm walking down the hall.At least Cadence
is still here.
