She hands me
a card
Cadence left for me
like she
always does
to welcome me
back to school
from the
hospital.
It's signed
with her
signature,
"Buckets of love!"
I smile.When I can't take
the feeling of
missing out anymore,
I assure the secretary
that I love her,
collect a hug,
and make my way
down the hill
to Kjerstin's office.Overjoyed—
excessively so—
to see me,
the guidance counselors
fawn
over me,
each squeal or
hello
drawing out
the next one down
the hall,
except for the guy
who's the last door
on the right
and hates
everything.I adore them all,
really,
I'm just not feeling
sparkly sunshine and
oozing with love
today.I just
want
Kjrsten.
