Alex's POV:
I don't think I've ever been so nervous in all my life. This is mine and James'es first official date. We're going to see the new IT movie and go to dinner at Nando's afterwards. I'll admit, not the fanciest of places to go on a first date, but if I had to go to a five star restraunt and try to act posh I'd be even more worried.

I said I'd meet James outside the movie theatre at quarter to eight, so when I checked my phone for the millionth time and it was half seven, I decided to start the walk into town. I'm wearing my plain, pale pink hoodie and ripped, black, skinny jeans. I shoved my phone and wallet into my pockets and went to tell George I was going.

I emerged from my room and walked down the hall to his, to find the door cracked open, with him lying on his bed watching Netflix. I smiled and waved when he caught my eye, and he took of his headphones to hear me.

"Hey, I'm going out" I said, timidly. I could already hear the hundreds of questions he was going to ask me. "Should be back before midnight"

"Alright. Where ya going?" He asked, scanning my outfit. "nice jeans, by the way. D'ya get mugged while wearing them?" He smirked.

I bared my teeth in a mocking smile.
"Ha, ha very funny. Actually I'm going on a date. With James, before you ask."

"Aww, cute. I was wondering when one of ye would have the balls to ask the other out. Well, see you later. If you're not gonna be home by midnight, text me, so I know James hasn't murdered you" George joked.

Alex left the room laughing until George's words sunk in. Why would George say that? He knows how anxious I am about this date. I rest a hand on the front doors doorknob and weigh up my options. I could either go meet James, or blow him off and potentially ruin our friend group.

Screw it.

Alex walked into town, arriving at the cinema at twenty to. James wasn't there yet so I decided to just stand outside to wait for him. I didn't realise how cold it was outside. I shoved my hands into my pockets to try to stay warm and after a few minutes of waiting James rounded the corner and started smiling as soon as he saw Alex. He was dressed in black jeans and a black top with a fluffy denim jacket over it.

"Hey, sorry to keep you waiting," James said, slightly breathlessly.

"No, it's fine I only got here a minute ago" Alex replied, smiling up at James.

"Shall we go in? I've been wanting to see IT for forever." James asked, his warm breath making smoke in the cool night air.

"Sure. I've wanted to see this for ages too actually" I said, as James held the door open for him.

They went up and got their tickets for the movie. They sat right at the back of the theatre and shared a popcorn.

In the middle of the movie, there was suddenly a huge jumpscare, and I flinched and grabbed James arm instinctively. Suddenly I realised what I'd done, and was glad the room was so dark so no one could see how red my face had gotten. James gently moved his arm, so I took the hint and let go, only for him to hold my hand. His hands were so soft and large against my bony fingers. It felt really nice.

When the movie was over we walked out of the cinema holding hands, talking about the movie as we made our was to Nando's.

"That was so great!" James said excitedly as we walked out of the cinema.

I laughed at how happy he looked.
"Yeah it was. But those jumpscared get me every time" I shyly admitted.

I suddenly became aware of how cold it was and shivered.

"Ugh, it freezing here. I should've brought a proper jacket" I complained.

"It's alright, have mine," James said, taking off his big, fluffy denim jacket and draping it over my shoulders before I could say anything.

"But won't you be cold?" I asked, secretly happy to have James coat around me.

"Nah, I'll be fine" he reassured me.

"Here, we should both be warm. It's only a few more minutes walk, but still" I said. I tried to swallow all my fears and anxious thoughts about tonight as I inched close enough to James to put an arm around his waist. He seemed surprised by this, but put his arm around my shoulder, nonetheless.

Third person POV:
Alex and James spent the next few hours, talking and laughing. They both had dark senses of humour and laughed at each other's jokes for ages. They realised they only lived a few streets apart from each other and at the end of the night James said he'd walk Alex home.

As they reached Alex's apartment building, Alex turned around to smile at James.

"You probably shouldn't come up, George would never let me hear the end of it" He joked,

James chuckled and said
"Yeah I suppose so... We should do this again sometime"

"Yeah definitely." Alex replied. He stared up into James green eyes and felt a wave of adrenaline come over him. Alex stood on his tiptoes and gently kissed James on the lips. After a few seconds James ran a hand through Alex's hair, making Alex let out a shaky breath.

"Well, bye James" Alex smiled, turning around to open the door to his apartment building.

"Bye Alex." James whispered.
