Game Day

Now, it is Saturday morning waking up to those bizarre thoughts from the conversation I heard Uncle Mitch talking. I certainly wanted to find out more about this Langhammer fellow. Surprisingly, I happily woke up early, so I could calmly get ready for the soccer game, and went downstairs to see if Uncle Mitch was or wasn't up yet. Apparently Uncle Mitch, was downstairs for a while already cooking breakfast for us.

"Wow, what are you cooking? It sure smells good!" I excitedly asked, "Hopefully you saved some for me!!" As I continued through the kitchen grabbing a glass of orange juice.

"Your favorite biscuits, gravy and eggs for my favorite soccer player. I'm socked there's some left although I haven't eaten yet." Uncle Mitch responded, while setting up the dining room table.

"On special days like today mom makes this for me as well. Speaking of them, do you have any idea when they are coming back home? I asked.

"After they solve everything with your long lost sis.Lang-hammm..  I mean probably soon." Uncle Mitch answered nervously.

"After they solve what? I didn't hear the last part of what you said." I asked nicely, although I actually knew what he was referring to. However, Uncle Mitch quickly changed the subject and told me. "Come to the table and eat your breakfast. Then let's let's over to the park."

"Sure!" I replied. (Why didn't he answer my question though?) I thought. After, finishing my breakfast about ten minutes later. We slowly started heading to the park for the game day. Uncle Mitch drove me there not just because I am grounded also he doesn't want me to waste all my energy on riding my bike. Once we got there it looked like everyone was waiting on me.

"Well, your late hurry up and get on the field to practice lightly before the game!" Coach Brad commanded.

"Yes, Coach! Right away! Going!" I said as I quickly ran on to the field.

As I ran out on the field a familiar voice said, "Hey, Mason get in the goal so you can practice your reflexes."

I got to the net and replied, "I'm ready go ahead and shoot your best shots!"

"With pleasure." Gavin said confidently.

"Easier said than done." I answered back truthfully.

Then my team started with some practice shots, Tyson took a quick shot and I easily hit it away with my hand. Gavin shot the ball to the right side bottom corner so I calmly and efficiently tracked the ball and with my left hand paddled it out.  Their next couple of shots were right at me so I caught them and threw the ball to the side. Cody took a shot that the ball speed-ed my way but it took a high curve and I froze, thankful it missed the net high right.

"Nice shot." I said.

"Thanks, but I still missed." Cody answered.

"However, it was still a great attempt." I replied in confidence. The whistle blew so that means it was game time, also the time we've all been waiting for! We saw the other team. Owensville Owls they call themselves. We've heard that they've won ten of the fifteen available titles in this league.

"Mazers vs Owls." One of the referees said, "Due to the Owls are the visiting team the get to pick which side they want on the coin. Heads or Tails?"

"Heads." a familiar voice said. I recognize it right away it's Cole Carlson the caption, and best player of their team.

"Head's is the call and it's........ Heads what do you want to do? Start with the ball now, or the second half?" Referee Ryan asked.

"We'll start with the ball." Cole stated firmly.

"Alright, let's get the game started!" Referee Ryan said.

Owls, started with the ball, so they trying to attack our net quickly they took a shot on me that I easily saved, and held on to for a second than I kicked it far towards there net. Cole came up and stole the ball from Tyson, and sprinted the other way towards me. He passed it to another player, but I was able to react in time and make another save for my team.

A lot of turnovers happen throughout the next 10 minutes of the game. Like Tyson took the ball towards the Owls goaltender but a defense-men kicked it away. That occurred a lot until Cole and another Owl had a breakaway I tried to point to where Bucky needed to move to but he stayed in the middle. I tried to stay near the post, but just before Cole took the shot I moved towards the middle of the net and Cole saw that opportunity shot the ball perfectly in between me and the post.

"GOAL!!!!" Someone shouted. 1-0 for the Owls.

I looked up for a split second cause I knew it was my fault. Right after, that happen there was only twenty minutes left in the whole game. I tried to tell my team to move up the defense, but the Owls would always take the ball towards me.

Owls, have a goal on six shots, a corner attempt, and a great defense. We on the other hand, have no shots on goal, no corners, however a pretty good defense though. With about fifteen minutes left Cole stole the ball from Cody who was trying to clear it. Cole, came towards me at an angle I tried to fill the whole goal, but Cole was moving to my left, and shot the opposite way perfectly of the post again.

"Goal!" Camden shouted. Who is the goaltender for the Owls. Now the score is 2-0 Owls in the lead. I swapped places in net with Tyson.

"Five minutes to go!" Referee Ryan shouted shortly after we allowed the second goal.

I decided to try to score at least a goal for us I ran with the ball to the Owls net moving left shooting right, however someone in front defected it right to Camden, who didn't even have to move. I was not happy. We lost 2-0 in our (my) first game.

Ten minutes after, the game ended my uncle came to pick me up and said, "You look mad. How did you guys do? I didn't reply I just thought if I would have saved those two shots we could have won.

"Anyway, I have some news about your parents and long lost sister Mia. They are coming home Monday morning. Uncle Mitch said excitedly. I didn't ever hear my uncle say that I just went on thinking.

"I guess you'll know once they get here now let's go home." Uncle Mitch said.

"Yeah, I guess so." I replied confusedly, a they drove home Mason decided to take this Langhammer matter into his own hands. The school it was flooded yet the rainfall was a minimal amount, Mason thought. Also the smoke came directly from the south west which would be the direction where Midwich is located from Short Meadow. He was astonished by this discovery and Mason wanted a mystery to chase. The two and two just fitted the description.
