It was a Thursday morning for me Mason Matthews. I live in Midwich, Montana. A small town with only 500 or so people. Then there's my best friend Tyson Tomas. Tyson and I usually go on small adventures here and there. Nothing illegal though (yet). My parents are gone most of my school year due to being Private Investigators. They catch criminals and track them down by finding witnesses or their identities. When they are gone; my Uncle Mitch stays with me.
My sister Mia, I haven't seen her since I was in 6th grade, and I'm in 9th now. She used to have some discipline problems and she's been with our aunt for a while. Mia, Maddy, and Hope are best friends. Mia hasn't seen them for a while though.
Maddy Maya, She and I used to have a crushes on each other, but she moved out of state a couple months ago and we haven't been in touch even since. Then there's Hope fields, a tattletale, wants to know everything all the time, and is Maddy's best friend. She's been going to the same school as I since 1st grade.
Around 5:45am I got up and out of bed. Then ate some oatmeal breakfast (it tasted like sawdust) and quickly hopped on the bus for school. Once I got on the bus I saw Tyson all the way in the back, and I sat by him. At the first moment it was quite awkward at first but then Mr.Homer (the bus driver) started to drive the bus.
"Hey Mason. What have you been up to lately? I really haven't caught up with you or had a decent conversation in like the past several months." Tyson said, trying to start a out of the blue conversation.
"Unfortunately nothing really " I answered, "How was your summer break? Did anything exciting happen without your sidekick around." Mason joked, as he slightly shoved him.
"Pretty good, I went to summer camp." Nothing adventurous occurred which is a bummer. The camp I went to had sports, games, and great facilities." Tyson said.
"That sounded awesome! Sadly, I just stayed at home for most of the summer. Wow, next time you should invite me." I anxiously replied.
"I might. Once the school year is over." Tyson teasingly said. "Hey don't worry about it. Think of the great school year coming up." Tyson replied, as it started the rain lightly.
"You better." I demandingly said." Really? Why don't you have a look out the window." I said, while Tyson looked and he saw the rain coming down.
"It will probably rain for only a bit." Tyson answered back, as the bus stopped on the parking lot.
"Never mind that now. Lets go to our classes, before Principal Frank finds out were late again." I said, as we ran inside to class.
Then the classes started, math, reading, and writing were on the top of my list. After rushing though the halls to make sure I'd be on time for every class, lunch finally came, although it was still raining so we had to go home early due to a terrible storm.
When I got home it was raining hard already.
Then Principal Matt called, and said. "The school has been flooded, and there will be no school for possibly two or more months."
"What happened to Mr. Frank? I thought he is the principal?" Mark asked.
"I'm the replacement principal for him. He had some urgent business in Canada." Matt Langston replied sternly.
"Hmm... He never told me. I hope it's not serious. I heard he has some family up there. Well, thank you for the information anyway." Mark answered, as he waited for the reply.
"You're welcome. Glad to be of service." Matt said, while hanging up the phone.
After I found out couple hours later about the conversation between my dad and the school's principal so I asked my mom. "Which school will I be going to for the next two months?"
Michelle replied, "Short Meadow is only 5 miles away, and that's where you will be going there next two months."
"What's in Short Meadow?" I asked.
"Some people I know live in that town. I heard that the school over there is pretty big, and great activities as well." Mark answered, my question.
"Wow, that sounds interesting." I replied, to my dad.
"That's not all." Mark said.
"Wait, there's more?" I asked.
"Yes. Do you remember those boys, who looked around your age that rode their bikes past here a while back?" Mark asked me.
"Yeah Dad. What about them?" I questioned.
"I heard from Don Fields...... who is the principal at Short Meadow High that those particular boys call themselves TheWildBunch." Mark said.
"That sounds cool. I might go, and investigate what they do." I told my Dad.
"If I were you, I would stay as far as possible from them. I heard that they're Bad News to be around." Mark ordered.
"That's only hear-say evidence though. What I like are facts." I answered back.
"I like facts too, but a mystery usually starts on hear-say evidence, before facts. Oh my goodness look at the time it's almost 10:30pm you better go to bed now." Mark commanded.
"Yes, Dad." I said, as I marched up to my room, and went to bed.
The next morning came sooner then I expected, and for that reason I was over an hour late for my first class.
Then Principal Don told me to come to his office before lunch break. He asked. "Mason, why are you late? You have never been this late for school ever. That's what I've heard."
I was speechless, but finally answered "It's because my best friend Tyson doesn't go here, and I don't like this school at all. I'm also suspicious of why my old school closed all of a sudden," so the principal decided to sent me home after lunch.
Once I got home I wanted to figure out, what school Tyson is going to? I tried calling and texting him that night, however he didn't response.
About an hour or so Tyson finally texted back, and said "Hi Mason this is Tyson I'm going to Rock Station High it's 10 miles away, but I have a lot of friends who go here. "Are you busy tomorrow?" Some of my friends are going to my place to play basketball do you want to come?"
I texted back. "Yes see you tomorrow."
Tyson replied. "Great I will call you in the morning to remind you."
