While I was falling from the bridge into the river, I hit a branch that reduced the impact on the water. Maddy ran down a trail to where the current took me. I was unconscious for a bit from the hard impact. Once I regain my senses, while floating in the river I saw Maddy by the riverbank.
"Mason, are you okay?" Maddy asked, while helping me up and out of the water.
"I'm fine, no thanks to you." I replied.
"Well, you can tell me why you're acting like Macgyver? Jumping into rivers, climbing on cliffs, and more." Maddy answered.
"Wait a sec. I was trying to cross that bridge, not jump across." I said in my defense.
"Mason, why are you doing this? Whatever this is at least let me help." Maddy demandingly said.
"You don't need to know. Absolutely not! Maddy, you need to go back. I can handle this on my own." I firmly replied, as I limped away.
"You did get hurt!? Didn't you?" Maddy asked me.
"Not badly. Anyway it's just a sprain." I responded, back to her.
"A sprain is bad enough. I'm defiantly staying with you. Where do you think you're going now?" Maddy determinately asked, as I walked back up towards the bridge.
"To get my backpack off the ledge. What did you think I was doing?" I replied, as I looked down the cliff.
"What! You can't possibly think you will be able to get your backpack from there. Let alone walk." Maddy said, while pointing 5 feet down to where the backpack was on a ledge.
"I plan to. Pass me that vine behind you, Maddy. Please." I asked her.
I saw a tree behind Maddy, and tied the vine to it. Then tested it's strength, and started to repel down towards my backpack.
"Are you sure this will work and hold you?" Maddy asked determinately.
"Nope, but it's worth a shot." I said enthusiastically.
"Ugh.... you're insane, Mason!" Maddy angrily replied.
I lowered myself down, and snatched my backpack. Then went slowly back up. Once I got back up, I told Maddy.
"See, I told you it would work!" I happily said, as I tugged on it to show her it was strong, however the vine snapped, and fell down on the ground.
"Luckily. Though If you would have fell, this time you would be as good as dead." Maddy worriedly said.
I didn't though. Besides we don't need that vine anymore." I reassured her.
"Well, where do we go from here?" Maddy asked me.
"We?" I confusedly answered.
"Yes, we. I'm coming along." Maddy told me.
"Oh..kay great. First, pass me that big stick over there." I asked Maddy.
Maddy gave me the stick. Then I got my knife from my backpack, and craved a crutch for me to use.
"May I ask what's that for?" Maddy asked me, while hoping for a correct answer this time.
"A crutch. For me to use." I answered back.
