Honey, why are you calling me so late?
It's kinda hard to talk right now
It was always hard to talk to her. No matter where FP was or who he was with it was...hard. It became a habit of hers to call at night. The sound of his southing voice helped her get through her night next to her husband. "Can you talk?"Honey, why are you crying, is everything okay?
I gotta whisper 'cause I can't be too loud
Her voice is small and soft. He could hear it crack every so often. "Ya I can talk." As soon as she heard his words Alice let out a breath. FP quietly walked into his office and locked the door. "I'm sorry." She let out a sob. "You didn't do anything."
"Your hiding in your office FP." She sighed wiping her cheeks with the sleeves of her oversized sweater. "I'm just talking to you. Like always." He shrugged. "Where's Gladys?" She knew he was lying. "In bed."
"Like always..."Well, my girl's in the next room
Sometimes I wish she was you
I guess we never really moved on
It's really good to hear your voice saying my name
It sounds so sweet
Coming from the lips of an angel
FP would sit there for hours after. Replaying the short phone call In his head. Her soft voice saying his name, the small whimpers he heard. He could lie...he does lie everyday. He lives the lie of a happy marriage, a marriage full of love. The reality is he's in love with Alice...he will always be in love with her. It's funny that you're calling me tonight
And, yes, I've dreamt of you too
"Hey, I was just about to call you." FP smiled. Gladys was at her parents house for the weekend. "Well than I'm guessing we're alone? Considering I can hear the tv in the background." She smirked. Hal was also out for the night. "The house all to myself." He chuckled. "Did you know that I had a dream last night. I dreamt Gladys left and never came back." Alice hummed. In retrospect the dream should tell them something. "How funny. I dreamt Hal died." The two chuckled and carried on with their normal night routine, but on speaker phone. And does he know you're talking to me?
Will it start a fight?
No, I don't think she has a clue
The weekend of peaceful talking was over. This week FP decided to take his chances and call Alice. "Can you talk?" He sighed. Work had kicked his ass today and needed to hear her voice. "Um...give me a second." She whispered Hal's ears had perked up when he heard her phone ring. "Ok we're good." She smiled slightly. She didn't planned on calling him, but she's glad he did. "He's home." FP frowned he knew it was a high possibility. "Mhhhm." She sighed. "Does he know I'm on the phone?"
"Does Gladys know I'm always on the phone?" She challenge. She didn't want to fight with him. "I just don't want to start a fight between you two." He sighed. She was being defensive, but she had the right. "Well I have to go, but can't wait to hear from you again." She kissed the phone and hung up. Going back to Hal saying work had some questions.Hearing those words - it makes me weak
And I never wanna say goodbye
But, girl, you make it hard to be faithful
With the lips of an angel
The calls continued month after month. Getting longer and more personal. At one point the phone calls added pictures through text message. They both feel bad for their spouses of course. The closer they got to cheating the worse they felt. The couldn't just leave. Alice was tied with Hal because of Polly and FP well, he's heart didn't want to see Gladys break. So the calls was all they have from now till forever.
