She doesn't remember...
"That is why I didn't come back sooner... That and the fact that the mission I was part of was erased from existence and me and everybody else who was part of it, too along with it."
You still couldn't believe it
"Whoever survived was killed under the government's order... Better kill off someone rather to let them live to spit out your secrets, right?" she scoffed and stood up, her attention drawn by the picture you were looking at earlier of you two and Jason.
"I was the exception because I couldn't remember much. They assigned me to Ms. Simmons to help me with my P.T.S.D and alert them the moment I remembered something, so that I would end up dead like the others. She was not allowed to tell me about my family and she didn't say anything, up until this morning. She first helped me go through my trauma, so that I could be with you again, without risking of hurting any of you.. "
"Hurting us?" you interrupted, still shocked by everything she was telling you
"When I... I usually dreamt about my days as a prisoner... And let's say it wasn't the best of moments to be near me" she said with no further explaining
You nodded understanding.
In front of you stood a woman who bravely faced death and didn't give up when all hope was lost. A woman who faced her demons alone and probably wished she didn't have to face them alone for six damned years. A woman that was now probably ashamed of her body that held so many bad reminders of her days as a prisoner, when there was nothing to ashamed of. A woman who, although she didn't remember anything, was willing to try again and reunite with her family. This woman was your wife, and she was back, after all these years to feel loved again, to not be alone anymore.
"I'm sorry I don't remember you" she said as she still held to the framed picture of your family with tears in her eyes
You quickly stood up and ran to hug her as tightly as you could.
"It's not your fault. It's not your fault." you repeated through your sobs
"I don't care if you don't remember, we'll make new memories. I will be there next to you anytime you need me. I will never leave your side, not again. I missed you so much, Carol. I love you so much." she hugged you back and started crying as well
In the meantime, Maria came back and stood next to Ms. Simmons
"So... she doesn't remember anything?"
"Only that she was loved by someone she missed with all her heart" the woman replied, crying tears of joy now that her friend has reunited with her family
"What's gonna happen now? She was not supposed to know about us."
"I'll take care of it. I'll take full responsibility and tell them there's no way she's gonna remember the mission... She is home now"
Maria nodded and smiled looking at her two best friends
"Thank you... For being there for her..."
"Rebekah. " The woman introduced herself, holding out her hand
"Welcome to the family, Rebekah" Maria replied smiling and shaking the woman's hand
Once you stepped out of the embrace Carol pointed to the kid in the picture
"Is that... Our son?"
You nodded "Wanna meet him?"
Her eyes widened in fear
"What?! Now?! He's probably sleeping and I'm not in tge best of shape..." she trails off referring to her missing leg
You shake your head and take her hand
"He's not gonna care about it, just as I don't care about it. You're still beautiful, Carol. Remember that. All he's gonna care about is that his momma is finally back. And knowing him, he probably heard the whole conversation anyway." she laughs as you make way to your son's room, showing her your house in the meantime
Once in front of the door you nudge her to knock.
Knock Knock knock
"Come in"
Carol looked at you with a little hesitation in her eyes but you encouraged her to step in
"I'll be right next to you" you whisper and she nods, stepping inside Jason's room
Jason was sitting on his bed, reading a book when his gaze fell on Carol.
He carefully closed the book and stood up, not moving a muscle to approach her
"You heard everything, right?" you ask and he nods guilty
"You really don't remember us?" he asks, a disappointed look on his face
Carol shakes her head
"I'm sor..." but before she could finish she was interrupted by Jason running full force to her to hug her.
"Don't leave anymore" he said, his voice muffled by Carol's clothes
"Never again" Carol softly said and kissed her son's head before looking at you with a smile on her face
"Everything is gonna be alright" you mouth to her and she nods
"I love you" you whisper but she heard you anyway
She looks at you
"Even though I don't remember you, I know that I love you, too. Y/N."
You cry happy tears as she engages a conversation with Jason about nerdy stuff. She remembered your name. She told you she loves you. She was back home.
Yes, everything is going to be alright
