Knight!Carol AU

Present

The next eight years were not easy for Carol. It took a while for her to heal and put on some weight. She had trained every day with your father and you stood aside to watch from afar, her powers so astounding and yet so dangerous. She would always end up on the ground, writhing in pain as her powers burned her from the inside, not able to control it, but you were always there for her, ready to sing that lullaby that she liked so much and hold her hand when it was safe to.

No, it wasn't easy at all, but Carol never gave up. She couldn't bare the thought of hurting you again, so she tried and tried, again and again, until she could barely stand up straight. She hated herself when she noticed the burn on your hand, tears streaming down her eyes as she apologized many many times. But you shook her off, telling her that you now had a part of her forever embedded on your skin and that you liked it.

The connection between you two grew stronger and stronger everyday. When she wasn't training she was glued to your side as you taught her to read and write, to ride a horse, to dance. You played together and laughed as you ran through the halls of the castle, her always chasing you before tucking you to the ground with her on top of you, you trying to shield yourself from her endless tickling. She was your best friend and you never failed to tell her that, grabbing her hand with your scarred one

"We will be best friends forever and this is the proof of it" you always told her pointing to your hand.

As the years passed by and you both grew up, Carol finally managed to control her powers and came running to you the second she did to tell you the great news.

"I did it! I did it!" she was sixteen when she mastered her powers and she crashed into your arms, bringing you to the ground with her.

She grew up to be a very beautiful girl. All her training paying off as her body grew, her muscles ripped and complementing her figure. She wasn't the little thin, scared little girl when she first came to the castle anymore. She was an almost fully grown woman that you couldn't take your eyes off.

Yes. Because as you two grew up, so did the feelings you had for her. You didn't realize it at first, you were sort of denying the romantic love you felt for her, telling yourself you loved her as a sister would. But as time went on you couldn't deny it anymore. You were in love with Carol Danvers and you couldn't tell her. Love between the same sex was not accepted in your village, it was punished with a fate worse than death, so you kept quiet and never told the truth of how you felt to anyone.

Now, eight years later the day you saved her from the woods, you found yourself waking up safely in her hold as she softly snored, your head tucked in the crook of her neck. After that day you both refused to sleep in different beds, one claiming to be able to calm the other girl down and the other admitting she felt safe with the other one next to her.

As you came to, you shifted your head to look up at her face and quietly chuckled at her parted lips as a loud snore echoed in your new room. Your eyes then fell back on her chest where you could see the tip of her now healed scar popping out of her night robes. You frowned as you remembered how painful it was for her to heal that damn thing she was so ashamed of and softly grazed it with your fingertips. She never told you how she got it and you never asked, afraid to bring back memories that could hurt her. Carol shifted in her position as you touched it, a small smile on her face as all it did now was tickle her, before her eyes fluttered open and she looked down at you.
