Getting Carol to fight into the Arena turned out to be easier than expected. You just enlisted her under the name of Star Knight, specifying that said lord didn't want his identity to be revealed unless he won the Tournament.
At first Carol was scared, doubtful, and you were, too. Many questions kept you up at night, but one plagued your mind
What if she gets hurt?
That was your main concern. Sure, killing is not allowed, but swords could make her bleed to death.
You two trained day and night, behind your parents' back, who, if they were to find out... You really didn't want to find out what they would do.When the day of her first match finally came, Carol couldn't sleep. She was nervous and pacing back and forth in her tent, her armor clanking each step she took.
"I'm not sure this is a good idea anymore, Y/N. What if I'm not strong enough? I never fought against a man and I certainly can't use my powers. I will just make a fool out of myself. Those jerks were right... This is no job for a woman..." she started rambling but stopped when you placed your hands on her shoulders.
" Hey, hey... You can't start doubting yourself an hour before the match, you have no reason to. Carol, you are the strongest woman I know, your powers are just a bonus, you do not need them. Remember why we are doing this. We are going to show those men out there that women can fight as well as they do, even better! You are going to win this tournament, love. I know." your hands instantly raised to cup her face, her eyes staring back at yours as she slowly calmed down, leaning into your touch.
She raised one hand to rest on one of your before taking it and bringing it to her lips, leaving a soft kiss at the back of it.
"You are always there for me..."
"And I always will be." you smiled at her and rested your forehead against hers.
How you wanted to kiss her right now. You couldn't hide your feelings anymore, you had to tell her.
"Carol... I..."
Before you could say anything else, the sound of trumpets filled the air as the crowd started cheering, meaning the match was about to start. You huffed and groaned a little, Carol staring at you with confusion.
"What is it?"
"Nothing important. Just be careful"
You smiled at her as she nodded.
"I'm always careful."
"I beg to differ." you teased, making her playfully push you.
"Go get them, my knight in shining armor" you say, placing her helmet on her head.
"I like how that sounds. Especially because I'm your knight." she teased and left to get to the match when she was summoned.
You let out a sigh, disappointed that you didn't get to tell her you love her and reached your father's side, standing over the battle ground.
You saw Carol standing next to her opponent, who was twice her size, facing you and your parents. Your heart started to beat out of control as fear shook your being. He could crush her with his bare hands for how big he was. You took a deep breath and calmed down before your father could notice. You knew she could do it, there was no reason to be scared.
"Where is Carol?" your mother asked you, noticing her absence.
"She didn't feel so good so she stayed back in our room." you quickly lied, fidgeting in your place. You never were good at lying and you were hoping your mother wouldn't notice.
