You were eight when you met her. It was the first time in forever you could finally spend some time with both your parents. With your father being the king he hardly got to spend some time with his family, so when he had the chance to, he would take a carriage and take both you and your mother out of the village.

That day you were pretty excited because your father had agreed to teach you how to use a sword, despite your mother's disapproval, claiming it wasn't lady like to hold a sword, but let you anyway, never denying you te chance to be who you wanted to be.

Gerald, the coachman, was taking you to the woods right outside the village under your father's order, where no one could interrupt your family time.
Along the way, your father was telling one of his many battle stories but you couldn't seem to focus on his words. Your mind was set on the sword training you were about to do, your eyes focused on watching outside the carriage.

Soon that rain of thought about swords was interrupted by a child crying for help. Your eyes widened in fear as you watched a little girl, who could have been a year or two older than you, running from a man before tripping and falling face first on the ground. You winced at the pain she might have felt and turned to your father

"Father! Help her!" you cried but your father was already ordering Gerald to stop the carriage and was out in a second, running to the man who just struck the child across her face before landing a kick to her stomach.

Your mother tired to cover your eyes but you pushed her away

"Step away from the child!" Your father growled, branding his sword and pointing it against the man's throat, making him step away from the little girl, who was crying on the ground, curling on herself to try and shield her body from a next hit.

"Who the hell are you supposed to be?!" The awful man rasped out, his hands raised and stepped further away from your father's sword.

"I am Lord Y/L/N, King of the kingdom!" as your father let his status known, the man's eyes widened in fear, knowing well who was facing him.

"M-My Lord... I am awfully sorry you had to witness such an act, but you have to understand... This... Thing is a freak! She can do things! Awful things! Black magic I tell you!" the man tried to explain himself but ended up gulping loudly when the tip of your father's sword grazed his throat.

"You will not say another word." you father threatened, his voice so deep and scary you almost didn't recognize him.

"You will turn around and go back to whatever hell hole you came from. If I find out you lay a hand on another child ever again..." he stepped forward, angling his sword so he was close enough to the man's face to feel his breath on his face, sword ready to chop if necessary.

He whispered something only the man could hear but judging by his suddenly pale face, it wasn't something good.

"W-What about the ch-child?" he stuttered

Your father's gaze landed back on the child on the ground, who was still crying.

"She will come with me" he simply replied.

"Now leave! Before I change my mind and behead you right here!" he then growled towards the man as the latter ran away before shouting "Fine! Take the freak! But don't say I didn't warn yah!"

You could see your father retracting his sword and shake his head before he gently lowered to the ground near the little girl. You couldn't hear what he was telling her, but both your mother and you let out a sigh of relief when he took her thin, battered, little body in his arms and came back inside the carriage, laying her next to you.
