After Carol was released, you took her home, patiently answering every question regarding herself or both of you.

You could see how losing her memory was effecting her and it hurt you deeply. Even more, you felt guilty about not being able to stop Rogue in time. If you did, Carol would still have her memory and her powers, but now she had nothing.

You apologized many times but she would not hear any of it, saying it wasn't your fault.

"Even though I don't remember how it happened, I'm sure it was not your fault." she always says.

Even with her memory gone, Carol still seemed to trust you, and you were glad of that. You knew how hard it was for her, trying to get back into a life she did not remember, but she was not alone in this. You were there for her and always will be because there is nothing you would not do for the woman you loved.

"Is this where we live?" Carol asked once you parked in front of your house.

"Yes." you simply say, sending her a soft smile before getting out of the car to help her with her crutches.

She gives you a small smile and kindly accepts your help, even though you knew she did not like taking help from anybody because she was too proud to admit she needed it. But she did not know you knew, well, she did not remember you knew, so she just stayed silent and let you help her to the front door.

Once inside, you saw her scrutinizing every detail of your home, squeezing her eyes and trying her best to remember at least something of the life she had here, but came up with nothing. The disappointment was clear in her face, your heart breaking at the sight.

Then a picture on the wall caught her attention

"It's us the day we first moved here..." you start explaining when she gently brushes her fingertips against the glass.

"You wouldn't stop smiling that day, you were so happy. You told me you finally had someone you could come home to and that you couldn't wait to wake up to me every morning. Maria was there that day, she took that picture of us. You sneaked up behind me and scared the living life out of me. You laughed and apologized when I glared at you, hugging me from behind and kissing me in the cheek." you said, smiling at the memory, but that smile fell once you took in Carol's expression.

Her face was blank of emotions, but you knew better. You knew not remembering you or any of her whole life was killing her from the inside, but she did not want you to see it, she did not want to hurt you. Her gaze was still set on that picture of you two when you took her hand and gave it a strong squeeze, silently telling her that it was ok, that you were there with her and that you will never leave her alone.

She looks down at your intertwined hands, you suddenly thinking it was a bad idea to engage physical contact when she barely knew you, but that thought flew out of the window when she looked at you, her lips curling up in a genuine smile.

"I'd like to see more." She says pointing to the picture, making your smile from ear to ear.

"Of course."

When Xavier finally arrived, he would spend every night working with Carol, trying to get her memory back. It's been two months, but still, there was no improvement.

You tried to help in any way you could. You showed her photos and told her stories about you two or her adventures as Captain Marvel, you gave her space, barely engaging physical contact and slept on the couch, figuring like it would have been difficult for her to sleep in the same bed as you.
