"None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an afterthought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you're carrying in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There's no time for anything else." —
Anthony Hopkins

"Bev!" I whisper-yelled from across the library, motioning the red head over.
She smiled when she saw me, at trotted over. "Hey thanks for tutoring me Mike!"
"Of course, kid. Anything for you," I said with a shrug.
She giggled in reply, before she reached down and pulled a stack of papers out.
"Is this all from one week?" I asked in complete shock.
She bit her lip and looked down at the floor, but nodded. "Yeahhh... my math teacher really sucks," she explained.
I knew she was lying, but said nothing about it. At least she was attempting to get it done.
"Yeah yeah ok. What first?" I asked her from across the small table.
"Umm can we do the chemistry? I have no idea how to name compounds," she said.
I nodded as she pulled out a packet of paper from her binder.

"Please let me pay you?" She asked me as I walked her home.
"No can do Ms. Marsh. It's my honor to help you on your homework," I said sarcastically, bowing down.
     We both giggled.
"You're a goof Mikey," she laughed.
"Yeah yeah. Whatever you say Beverly," I responded.
We walked in silence for a few moments.
"Pleaseee let me pay you! You've spent like four hours helping me!" She begged.
"Nope," I said, popping the p.
"Uhhg," she groaned. "Can I do anything for you?"
     I bit my lip. "Well..."
     "Yesss?"
"If not it's ok, but could we start meeting at my house? The time it takes to bike all the way across town really makes my grandfather mad, so if he could see me actually doing work, that would be so much easier."
"Of course Mike, that's perfect." She smiled at me.
I sighed in relief. "Thanks Bev."
We came to her apartment. "Welp, I guess this is goodbye till next week," she sighed.
"Yeah, I guess so," I said. "But if you wanna hang out or anything you know my number. Oh and my address!"
I took the notepad out of my front pocket and scribbled it down. "There's a really long gravel driveway by the way," I warned her.
"That's fine," she smiled. "I'll see ya." She pushed up on her toes and kissed my cheek. "Bye."
    "Buh-Bye," I said blushing lightly.
With that, she walked inside, leaving me alone. It suddenly seemed to grow colder, and I shivered, wrapping my sweatshirt tighter around me.
I sighed, and began my lonely trek home, thinking of Beverly. My mind was so caught up with the thought of her, I didn't even notice the blue mustang tailing me. Not until it was too late.
I heard a car door slam, and I spun around, shocked by the sudden noise. I groaned internally as I saw Henry, Victor and Patrick standing mere feet behind me.
"Can I help you?" I asked, raising my eyebrow.
They scowled at me and cracked their knuckles. "Mhm, you actually can Mikey old boy. We need you to be our punching bag."
"Umm no." I took off running like a bat out of hell, knowing that if I got a good head start, they'd be eating my dust.
All three of them began chasing me, but I was the fastest runner by far. Until I fell.
I heard feet gaining on me, and I rolled under the bushes near me. The footfalls stopped right by my head.
"Where-where the hell did he go!" I heard one of them roar.
"The kid is fast," another panted.
They stood talking for another moment, before finally walking away. I waited for another minute, then slowly crawled out from under the bushes, before limping my way home.
