"There is literally nothing in nature that blooms year round, so do not expect yourself to do so." —
Unknown.I stood for a moment, just watching Bill walk away.
"Bill, wait!" I called, running to catch up with him.
He turned around, smiling despite the tears in his eyes threatening to spill over.
"H-Hey Ben," he said once I caught up to him. We started walking towards his house.
"Why don't you think our friends want to hang out with you? They literally love you big Bill," I told him.
He shrugged in response. "I duh-don't know. T-they just a-act like I'm in-invisible s-sometimes and it ruh-really gets to m-me," he explained quietly.
"Oh." I was at a loss for words. "Well, we all care for you Bill. I'm sorry it doesn't always seem like it, but we do. Honestly."
He smiled down softly at me, a light blush spreading across his face. "T-Thanks Ben."
"Now lets go work on the 'project' of yours," I joked, making air quotes.
He chuckled along with me. "H-how about a muh-movie marathon instead?"
I grinned. "That sounds like a perfect way to end this shitty week!"
We both laughed openly now.
"Let me run home, ok? I'll grab some pop corn and snacks!" I exclaimed.
Bill grinned. "D-don't forger p-pajamas. Y-you can spent the n-night if you w-w-wanna..."
I grinned back. "Oh, ok! Thanks big Bill!"
I began to jog towards my house.
"I'll s-See ya later Ben!" He called out from behind me.I skidded into my house, skidding right into my cousin.
"Whatch it," he snapped.
"Shut up," I muttered. "Hey mom I'm spending the night at Bill's house!" I called, grabbing a pair of pajamas and stuffing them in an overnight bag.
"Ok honey, be safe!" She called back.
I made a pitstop in the kitchen, grabbing the jiffy pop and a bag of chips.
"Bye!" I called, slamming the door behind me, before my cousin could stop me from 'taking all the food.'
I made it back to Bill's house in record time. I knocked on his front door; Georgie answered it.
"Hi, Ben," he said in his sweet, soft voice. "Billy's upstairs in his room waiting for you."
"Thanks kid," I said, ruffling his hair.
He giggled and ran away as I walked up the stairs to Bill's room. I knocked on the door.
"C-come in," Bill called out.
I opened his door. "Hey it's me," I said.
He snorted. "I w-would hope s-so. Nobody in t-this f-family give me pr-privacy."
I laughed with him. "Oh."
He motioned me over to his bed. "S-Sit."
"Thanks," I said, sitting next to Bill.
He flipped on an old black and white movie, and placed his head on my shoulder.
"Ya k-know Ben, y-you're my f-favorite friend," he told me.
I laughed. "Oh don't say that Bill."
He looked up at me, his eyebrows scrunching in confusion. "B-But it's true."
We both began to laugh. "Ok Bill. Whatever you say."
We sat in silence for a while, just watching the movie. I glanced down at Bill, blushing madly when I realized he'd fallen asleep on me. I snuggled down in Bill's bed, closing my eyes as well.
