"you expect the same person who pushed you into the water to be the same person who keeps you from drowning and that's the fucking problem."

"I'm Bev by the way," she told me.
"Oh. I'm Ben. Ben Hanscom," I told the pretty girl.
She smiled gently at me. "Thanks again dude," she said, giving me finger guns.
I laughed, shooting them back at her. "Anytime."
"You feeling all right?" She asked me.
"Yeah. A lot better than I was. I'm a bit of a lightweight." I mentally facepalmed. Who the fuck tells a cute girl that after they've first met.
I was surprised when she giggled. "Aw, that's all right," she said, still snickering in a friendly way.
I laughed along with her. "I didn't mean to say that."
"I figured... what do you say we get out of here?" She asked me.
"Where would we go?" I asked, then mentally slapped myself again for not just saying yes.
"Oh I don't know. Anywhere but here. I have a feeling Henry will be back here sooner or later."
I nodded in agreement. "You lead the way Bev," I told her.
She offered me her hand, and I gladly took it. "Oooh let's go to Waffle House."
"Eww," I said with a laugh. "You like that place?"
"Only when it's two in the morning and I'm drunk," she explained.
     I nodded. "Makes sense."
She laughed, and took my hand in hers, leading me out of the stuffy house and out into the cool fall air.
"Come onnn," she said. "There's a Waffle House a few blocks from here."
She drug me down some random back roads, and to my great surprise, we ended up at a Waffle House.
We walked into the small, warm restaurant, and sat ourselves.
"I'll have two pecan waffles please," Bev told the waitress as steadily as she could.
"I'll just have a side of hash browns please. With cheese," I told the lady.
The food came out quickly, and Bev quickly scarfed the hot contents down.
"Oh my godd Ben. These are soooo good," she told me, laughing to herself.
I giggled at her. "Well good. I'm glad."
She smiled at me, syrup coating her lips. I couldn't help but laugh.
     "Whattt?" She asked me.
"You've got something right there," I said, pointing to my lips.
She blushed, and quickly wiped her lips with her napkin.
The waitress came over and sat the bill down on the table. "There's no hurry on that kids," she told us.
"Oh no we forgot to split the bill," Bev sighed.
"It's ok, I'll get it," I told her.
     "No I will," she said.
"How about I pay the bill and you leave a tip, ok?"
     She nodded. "Okayy."
I went up and payed while Bev fished some money out of her wallet.
     "Ready Freddie?" I asked her.
She smiled and nodded. "Will you walk me to my aunts house?" She asked me once we stepped outside.
"Sure thing. You just lead the way."

"Well, good night Bev," I said, standing outside her aunts small house.
She smiled tiredly at me. "You can stay if you want. There's a couch."
I chuckled. "It's ok Bev. Now goodnight."
     "G'night," she called. "Oh ben!"
I turned back around. "Here," she said, handing me a piece of paper. "That's my number. Just ask for me when you call ok?"
     "Ok Bev. Get inside now."
She nodded, and to my surprise she gave me a quick peck on my cheek. "Goodnight," she finally said, walking into her aunts house.
     "Good night Bev."
