"They told me you were gone and I screamed. I wailed, I cried and I screamed. As loud as I could. I halfway hoped that if you could hear me screaming on your way to heaven, you would turn around and come back to me." —

The six of us stood there, waiting to see if our new friend Mike would show up to the quarry. I hoped he would, he was really sweet.
Finally, I heard the familiar crunch of gravel being ran over by the wheels of a bike.
"Hello?" I heard Mike's deep voice call out.
"Hey," Eddie, Richie, and I all called out.
I saw his happily smiling face peer out from between the trees. "Hey guys," he said.
"Hi, Mike! I'm so glad you came," I told him.
He chuckled. "I didn't have anything better to do," he said with a shrug.
"S-so who's juh-jumping first?" Bill called out from the edge of the cliff.
We all glanced at each other, none of us wanting to go.
"I'll go," Mike said, shrugging again.
"Are you sure? It's a lot farther than it looks," Stanley warned him.
Mike just nodded, slipping off his white T-shirt.
I felt my mouth drop open at the sight of his half-naked body. He was very muscular, and he had a six-pack.
I heard Eddie snicker from behind me and I quickly snapped my mouth back shut as Mike looked over at me and smiled.
"You're next ok?" He asked, giving me a gentle punch to my shoulder.
"Mhm," I managed.
He took off running, and jumped off of the cliff, dropping the twenty or thirty feet to the water below.
All was silent before, "ok Ben it's you're turn!" His voice carried up back to us.
The five other kids stepped back to let me jump. I took a deep breath before flinging myself from the edge.

"You're a pretty good diver, kid," Mike told me from our sandy spot on the beach.
I felt myself blush. "Oh, uhh, thanks," I said, grinning stupidly.
He smiled back. "I've gotta get going, I'll see you around?"
I nodded immediately. "I'd like that."
His smile broke into a full grin. "Perfect here's my number." He pulled a piece of paper out of his small backpack that held his drying bathing suit.
I laughed. "Thanks man. I'll see you around!"
He stood up and smiled down at me. "Give me a call tomorrow if you ain't too busy. Maybe me and you can hang out."
"Like a da- I mean just the two of us?" I asked, blushed vividly.
"Mhm," he nodded. "Just me and you. I'll see you Ben. Bye guys," he called out to the rest of the losers.
A chorus of "bye Mike's" rang back from the water.
     "Bye Mike."
     "Goodbye Ben."
