"why else

— butterflies risingI listened to Eddie's mother screaming at him as tears poured down my face. This was all my fault; I shouldn't have given Eddie a makeover. We'd been so careful all this time, but we weren't today.
I listened to Eddie beg and plead with his mother as she kicked him out of his own house. Who can do that to their own child?
I listened to Eddie sob, and my heart broke. Eventually, I saw his feet appear out of his window, and I jogged over to him, wiping my own tears.
"Are you ok?" I asked immediately.
He just sobbed and threw his arms around me, shaking like a leaf.
I rubbed his back reassuringly. "Hey, it's ok. Everything's gonna be ok."
He sniffled, and wiped his eyes. He nodded. "You're right."
"You can stay with me and my grandma. She won't mind," I told him.
"Are you sure?" He sniffled.
I nodded. "I'm positive. Besides, she's always wanted a grandson," I said with a shrug.
He let out a sad giggle. "I-I'm not much of a son."
"You're enough of one, Eds," I told him, and slung my arm around his shoulders in a half-hug.
He smiled up at me. "Thank you for always being there for me Bev. I don't know what I'd do without you."
"Oh..." I was never good with his kind of stuff. "You'd survive without me."
"No I wouldn't. You're literally the only one who accepts me for who I really am. If-if I didn't have you, I probably would've killed myself by now."
I felt my mouth drop open in surprise. "Don't-don't talk like that Eddie!" I scolded him.
He shrugged his shoulders under my arm. "It's true Bev... you don't know how many times I thought about it... and how wrong I was," he paused and chuckled humorlessly. "And then you walked into my life like the fucking angel you are."
I stopped and turned to him. His eyes were filled with tears. "Eds," I whispered, brushing my fingers across his cheekbone.
He sniffled, and began to cry again. "You're really the greatest thing that's every happened to me. I don't know where I'd be with out you, Bev."
We wrapped each other in to a hug, tears rolling down both our faces.
"I love you Eds," I breathed.
"I love you too Bev," he sniffled.
