Halos.

Warmth.

That was what he was aware of first.

Especially the small pool of warmth.

Somewhere.

Even before he realized everything was wrapped in silence.

His mind was still dazed and fuzzy, struggling to come to fuller consciousness.

More halos.

Coming and going.

But there was this warmth pool that he could feel.

Somewhere.

And it really felt like his confused mind held on to it as though it was some kind of mental life jacket.

Some sort of anchor he had to grasp as tight as he could to help him to the surface.

And something else.

Something was puzzling his hazy mind.

Also, the closer he was getting to consciousness, the more painful it felt.

Still, instinct spurred him to keep on hanging on dear.

"Thank you, Doctor."

The whisper was so hushed, he could hardly hear it over the softest footsteps.

Whose voice was it?

Was it familiar?

A soft click.

A door.

Then he was drawn back to himself.

The sharper his perceptions became, the heavier he felt.

Like every single square inch of himself was solid concrete.

And the more acute his senses were getting, the more exhausted he felt.

That's when he realized he was actually starting to awake.

But it was hard.

So, so hard just to lift his eyelids.

It felt as if there were layers of sand underneath them.

And even though he fought with all his might, he was finding it terribly hard to keep them open long enough to be able to make out anything around him - except dim light.

Through his shut eyelids, he could perceive the halos again.

All he could behold in the very short moment when his eyes fluttered open and then closed again, was a dark-colored, yet somehow shiny rectangle in the distance.
