Everything at P3 was ready. The ghosts, fake cobwebs, pumpkins and buffet were all set and displayed. Myself, Melinda, Pandora and her sisters and the twins headed back to the manor to change into our costumes.
We were all heading up the stairs while Pandora went to grab some snacks and drinks for us. I was just about to follow after Penelope when orbs were scattered in front of me.
Jamie then blocked my path up the stairs.
"Happy Birthday," he grinned.
I huffed.
"Thanks," I said but I wasn't sure that I meant it.
"I uh got you a present," he smiled.
Yes, buy my trust, that always works out..
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small, black hard cover book with golden writing on it. It had a red ribbon bow tied around it neatly. I took it off him and read the golden writing.
The best of Shakespeare.
I was speechless. How did he know that I enjoyed reading Shakespeare? Or was it another thing that elders had participated in. Telling Jamie everything about me.
"Woah, thank you Jamie. This is pretty generous of you considering I met you a few days ago," I thanked.
"Well you are my charge so I suppose that I will be around for a lot of birthdays to come. Might as well start now," he replied.
That thought had never occurred to me. Jamie will be around me for the rest of my life. He'll always pop in when I least expect it, he'll always be there to help with spells and vanquishes and he will always be there to protect me. And I'm sure that the elders won't assign him to someone else, considering I'm prone to trouble.
"I have to go get changed for the party," I told him in a quiet tone.
"Sure go ahead, I'll see you there," he stepped aside for me to walk past.
"What? You're coming?" I asked surprised.
"Of course. As if I'm going to leave you go to a party full of goblins, witches and ogres, real or not, alone." He crossed his arms to emphasise his determination.
I sighed in defeat. I guess I would have to start getting used to him sooner rather than later.
"Fine, but it's a costume party so try and dig something out of you're closet, if you have one, or orb into a store and lend one," I told him and waved my hand dismissively.
Pandora came around the corner with food up to her neck and cans of soda still in the plastic.
"Hey, can you lend a girl a hand?" Pandora said with a bag of potato chips in her mouth.
I grabbed the soda's and a few packets of whatever she had gathered. We then started to walk up the stairs.
"I'll see you ladies later," I heard Jamie call up the stairs.
"He's coming to the party?" Pandora whispered as we continued up the stairs.
"Yes," I answered her in an unfortunate tone.
"Why?" Pandora asked.
We reached my bedroom door and I could hear the girls inside giggling. I took hold of the handle before speaking.
"To make sure I don't get mauled by wood nymph,"

The day had gone and now night was here. It was around 7 o'clock and Pandora and her sisters, the twins, Melinda and myself had gotten changed into our costumes.
Pandora was standing in front of the mirror, putting on red shiny lipgloss to go with her Dorothy costume. If you asked me, the dress was a little bit cut on the short side and I could see the frilly garter that held up her white stockings. Her hair was split into two braids, one on each side of her face, just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
Patricia was sitting down on my bed, ruffling her cheerleading pom poms. She was a cheerleader in her school, so all she had to do was get her red and white Pom Poms from her house to complete her costume. They matched the white, red and silver colours of her outfit. She had put her hair up in a pony tail and tied a red ribbon around it.
Payton was dusting down her dress and Little Red Riding Hood cape. When she put up the hood I had to blink a few times because the likeness was uncanny. Pearl was fixing her glittery wings on her pink fairy costume and Penny had somehow slithered herself into a tight black cat costume. She wore heeled boots, dark feline eyeshadow and red lipstick to top it off.
Melinda on the other hand had opted for something a bit more subtle and age appropriate. She was standing in the corner, twirling one way and then the other, watching the skirt of her dress flail about. Her brown hair was loosely curled and fell down her shoulders so gently it looked like it was levitating. Her yellow antenna stuck out of her head and wobbled when she moved. She had small black transparent wings on her back and she wore black sneakers on her feet.
"Do you think this looks okay?" She asked me nervously.
I smiled and gently nudged her playfully on her shoulder.
"You're the best bumblebee I've ever seen in my life,"
