Chapter 4: Fire and Ice

Mina walks down the hall and notices a group of students crowding the a flyer on the wall. She pulls in Chaeyoung and asks, "What's that about?" She looks at the crowd and says, "Oh it's probably the flyer for the Top5 tourney." Mina asks, "Top5? Why are there so many competitions?" Chaeyoung says, "It's so people try harder so they can be the best but Yoongi and I never participate cuz we don't care. You shouldn't too, it's stupid and the same people win every year."

Yoongi joins them and says, "I signed up." Chaeyoung raises an eyebrow and says, "Why? I thought you said you don't care." He says quietly, "Jin signed up and I'll show you I'm better than him." Chaeyoung chuckles and squeezes his cheeks while saying, "Cute. I'll cheer for you." Jimin passes by and Mina quickly gets his attention. She says, "Jimin, are you signing up?" He looks at her surprised then says, "Yeah, not bragging but I usually make it to the Top 5."

Mina's jaw drops and says, "Wow." Jimin smiles proudly and says, "I am one of the best." Jungkook suddenly appears and puts him in a headlock. He says, "Good luck, 5th place. Yoongi actually signed up this year." Jimin breaks away then turns to Yoongi. He asks, "Did you really sign up?" Yoongi nods and Jimin whines, "Why!"

Mina and Chaeyoung giggle as the bell rings and they move to their classroom. The teacher arrives with two new students and says, "I promise, this is the last group of new students. Please introduce yourselves."

The girl says, "Hello, I'm Jennie. I can freeze things." The other guy says, "Lim Jaebeom. I control fire." The teacher says, "Go find seats. The lesson is going to start." The two sit down as Jimin tenses up in the back. He recognizes Jennie's face from the incident at the Manor but something's different. Last time, she had such a cold look in her face and a stoic facial expression but despite being an actual ice princess, she's quite bubbly. Jaebeom is also a mystery as it looks like him and Jennie actually met before. Which means, he might know YG too.

The bell rings and an announcement on the PA system gains the attention to all.

"The Top5 Tourney has been narrowed down by the School Board. The final 8 to compete for the Top 5 rank are as following: Kim Namjoon, Jeon Jungkook, Min Yoongi, Park Jimin, Lim Jaebeom, Jung Hoseok, Wang Jackson, and Kim Seokjin."

Everyone starts to whisper and chatter as the top 8 are all top contenders. A guy says out loud, "Yoongi is definitely taking it this year. He's a literal god." Another says, "Jin might win it, he sees the future."

Everyone moves to the cafeteria as they continue to talk about the Top5. Chaeyoung, Yoongi, and Mina arrive at their table. Chaeyoung chuckles, "Hey, you might actually win." Yoongi looks at her offended and says, "Of course I'm going to win." Chaeyoung says, "I don't know. I still think Jin's going to win." Mina says, "What about Jimin? Everyone seems to talk about the other 7." Chaeyoung looks at her and says, "Sorry to break it to you, your boyfriend sucks. Only reason he's made top 5 is because Jackson never takes things seriously and Yoongi never competes. I bet he'll be dead last."

Jimin appears out of nowhere and says, "Thanks for the vote of confidence. I appreciate it." Mina looks at him and says, "Don't worry, I think you're going to win." He looks at her totally attracted and says, "Aww, thanks." Chaeyoung gags and says, "Gross. Anyway, did you see Jaebeom and Jennie? They seem so unreal." Jimin asks, "What do you mean?"

She says, "Just look at them, they're celebrities. Straight out of a movie and their powers. They're so connected." Jimin then says, "Speaking of celebrities." Jennie and Jaebeom ask, "Mind if we sit here?" Everyone stays quiet and Jennie chuckles, "If you don't want us here just say, we won't be offended." Jimin says, "No it's fine. You can join us."

The two sit and Jennie starts all kinds of conversation. She places both her hands under her chin as she speaks to Yoongi. She says, "I heard you were really strong. What's your powers?" Yoongi stays quiet and eats while Chaeyoung says, "He usually doesn't talk to-" Yoongi speaks up, "I'm basically a god." Jennie's eyes widened and says, "What!? A god?" He nods and says, "But it's tiring so I can't do it for so long." Chaeyoung pushes him and says, "Why are you telling the enemy your weaknesses!?" He looks at Jaebeom and Jimin who are sitting on the table and shrugs his shoulder.

Jennie turns to Jimin and says, "You're strong too right? I heard rumors that you suck." Jimin glares at her quietly and Jennie continues, "They released the brackets and you're facing Jaebeom first." Jimin glances at Jaebeom who's casually watching cute cat videos on his phone. Jennie then turns to Mina and says, "You look familiar. Have we met before?" Mina looks at her confused and shakes her head.

Jennie asks, "What's your powers? I swear we've met before." Mina says, "Telepathy." Jimin watches carefully towards Jennie's facial expressions and notices that she's confused. Weird. Jennie then says, "Nevermind. I'm thinking of someone else." Jaebeom hands his phone to Jennie and finally speaks up, "Hyunsuk is calling." Jennie says, "Excuse me. Dad's calling." Chaeyoung giggle and says, "You call her dad by his first name?" Jaebeom chuckles and says, "He's my dad too."

She looks at him confused and asks, "You're siblings?" Jaebeom says, "Adopted. Both of us." Jimin makes eye contact with Jaebeom. Double weird. Jennie comes back and says, "He was just checking in on me. So, Mina tell me about yourself." Mina looks at her confused and says, "So suddenly?" Jaebeom looks up from his phone as the siblings glances at her.

Mina says shyly, "Well, there's not a lot to know." Jennie asks, "What about your powers? I've only met one telepathic in my life. It's pretty rare, don't you think?" Mina says, "I guess. I really don't know what to talk about. My life isn't that interesting." Jennie continues to interrogate her, "How does your powers work? Is there a limit?" Jaebeom looks at Jennie and says, "That's enough. You're making her feel uncomfortable." Jennie quickly notices the mood and says, "Sorry. Just curious."

The two siblings leave and Jimin speaks up, "They're weird. Something is off about them." Chaeyoung nods and so does Yoongi. Jimin continues, "Why were they so curious about your powers? It's weird." Mina thinks about it and soon stands up to throw her trash. As she walks towards the trash can she accidentally trips. A pair of arms catch her before she hits the ground and the world moves in slow motion.

Mina glances at her savior and notices its Jin. He chuckles and says, "You should watch where your stepping." Mina stays quiet as she is still embraced in his arms. He helps her stand and she says, "Thanks." Jin says, "Go out with me." She looks at him surprised and says, "H-huh?" Jin smiles which makes her heart skip a beat and says, "Go out with me this afternoon. Just eat out and I can drop you home." Mina stutters, "E-at me. I MEAN OUT. Eat out?" He nods and says, "Don't worry, I'll pay."

She stays quiet and he says, "I'll take silence as a yes. I'll wait for you after school." Jimin notices Jin walking away from Mina and starts to approach her. He asks worried, "Did he do anything to you? Are you ok? Your face is so red." She covers her cheeks and whispers, "He just asked me out." Jimin's eyes widened as he knows Jin's intention and asks, "Did you say yes?" Mina nods slightly still flustered from Jin's sudden and direct request. Jimin sighs as he must try to save her somehow.
