Chapter 3: The Short Man

Mina smiles awkwardly and says, "I'm Mina." Jin returns a smile and says, "Since we're in a group, might as well get comfortable with each other. Right?" Mina nods and he says, "Well, what's your powers?" Mina says, "It's complicated." Jin chuckles and says, "No way it can be more complicated than mine." 

Mina raises an eyebrow and he says, "I can look into the future. Only 3 seconds though." Mina's jaw drops and says, "No way." Jin says, "You don't believe me?" Mina squints her eyes and says, "Prove it." He then says, "Oh hey Jimin." She looks at him questionably then a guy appears behind him.

Mina points at him questionably and says, "Jimin?" Jimin looks at her confused and says, "How do you know my name?" She squeals in excitement and says, "That's so cool!" Jimin replies confused, "Pardon?" Jin says, "I told you. Now it's your turn." She says, "I'm telepathic but a special kind."

Jin looks at her totally interested and says, "Special how?" Jimin ends up standing with his group as he listens to what Mina says. She says, "My mom kinda had the power to control people's minds and my dad could read them. But I can't do it very long and I don't know how to control their minds yet." Jin's and Jimin's jaw drops in shock. Jin stutters, "Did you ask them to teach you yet?"

Mina turns quiet then says, "No." Jin replies, "Why not? You're probably the coolest person in the world." She says quietly, "They're not here anymore." Jin suddenly regrets asking and says, "Sorry." Jimin watches quietly as he confused about a lot of things. Jimin points at Jin and says, "When did you transfer here?" 

Jin says, "While you were away." Mina points at the two and says, "You know each other?" The two nod and Jin says, "We worked together." She questions, "Worked? Past tense?" Jin nods and says, "We kinda resigned a few days ago." Jimin bites his lip and tries to clear his thoughts as he just found out Mina could read minds. Mina chuckles as she noticed the two guys trying to clear their minds and act normal.

She says, "Don't worry. I can control my powers. So I don't read minds all the time, it'll just tire me out and I'll pass out." Jin sighs in relief and she looks at him suspiciously. Mina says, "Why, what were you thinking?" Jin says, "Just remembering how beautiful I am." Mina then faces Jimin and says, "You never introduced yourself." Jimin clears his throat and says, "I'm Jimin. My power is intangibility." 

Mina looks at him confused and says, "What's that?" Jimin demonstrates as he phases his hand through the desk. Mina's jaw drops once again and says, "What happens if you turn off your power while it's still there?" Jimin makes his hand tangible as he creates a clear hole through the desk. Mina says, "Awesome. We can make some kind of super hero team. Jin can predict the future and I can transmit the mind stuff while you do the running and fighting." The two look at her amazed as she looks fully engrossed by her imagination but in reality, they've been doing that.

It was their past job. Robbing the rich and supporting themselves. Jin chuckles and says, "What an imagination." Jimin chuckles awkwardly and the bell rings. Jin asks, "Mina, do you want to eat lunch with me?" Mina looks at him flustered and says, "J-just us two?" He smiles back and nods while Jimin stares at her in worry. Jimin says, "Jin, can we talk privately real quick?" 

The two boys leave Mina as she makes her way towards the cafeteria. Jimin says, "Remember the mansion we robbed and where that old guy died?" Jin nods and says, "Yeah, Mina's dad." Jimin's eyes widened and says, "So you know about her?" He smirks back and says, "Of course, luckily both of us ended up in the same group. Don't worry, my charm will get her." He walks away but Jimin holds his wrist. Jimin says, "We should leave her alone, she... Mina's been through a lot."

Jin takes back his hand and says, "Listen to what you're saying. Mina is probably the richest girl in this school and she's naive. If you want me to avoid an opportunity like this, then you're stupid." He walks away and smiles brightly again as he approaches Mina. 

He joins her at the table while Mina smiles awkwardly back. Jin says, "Sorry, if I'm awkward. I don't know anyone else here except Jimin." She replies, "It's ok. We're both new here so it's good we found each other." Jin says, "It's great we found each other." Mina blushes and says, "So where are you from?" He says, "Here and there. I move a lot. How about you?" She says, "Moved here with my dad from Japan a while ago." He nods his head and says, "Ahh, you're Japanese."

She nods and Jin says, "I love Japanese girls." Mina blushes as he continues to flirt. Suddenly, Jimin sits down in the table with them and the two stare at him confused. Jin glares at him while Mina keeps her innocent facial expression. Jimin asks, "Mind if I join you?" Mina shakes her head and says, "I don't mind." Before Jin could say anything, Chaeyoung and Yoongi joined their table. 

Chaeyoung asks, "Who are these two?" Yoongi silently looks at them as Jin stands and says, "I better get going." Mina says, "Why? I thought we were eating lunch together?" Chaeyoung raises an eyebrow and he replies, "I forgot I have to go to the principal's office for something. See you later." Jin winks then continues to walk away. 

Chaeyoung asks, "Who was that?" Mina says, "He's part of my group for a group project." Chaeyoung adds, "He's handsome." Mina replies, "Right?" Yoongi suddenly speaks up, "What's his name?" Chaeyoung says, "Why do you need to know? You gonna kill him?" Yoongi shrugs his shoulder and says, "Depends on what you think of him." She says, "He's handsome and outgoing. I bet he's funny too." He says, "Ahh, so what was his name?" 

Chaeyoung then notices Jimin and says, "Then who is he?" Mina looks at Jimin and says, "He's Jimin. Also part of my group." She nods then stays quiet. Jimin becomes bothered and Yoongi notices. He says, "Don't worry. I think you're handsome." Jimin smiles and says, "Thank you." He then questions Jimin, "Where you from? I think I've seen you somewhere." He replies, "Just here and there. I move a lot."

Mina's head picks up and stares at him confused. That's what Jin said. Jimin makes eye contact with Mina and starts to blush and panic. Yoongi reassures him, "She's not reading your mind. You'll know if she is, there's a small sensation in your head." Jimin gulps as Mina doesn't break away from the eye contact. She squints her eyes in suspicion and asks, "Is Jin your brother?" Chaeyoung answers for him, "No. They look nothing related. Face wise and height wise." 

Jimin heats up in anger and says, "Look who's talking, shorty." Yoongi retaliates, "Who you calling shorty, shorty?" Jimin stands and says, "Look who's calling me shorty, you shorty." Yoongi stands and says, "I'm taller than you!" Jimin questions, "How tall?" Yoongi says, "How tall are you!' Jimin answers, "173 cm." Yoongi smirks and says, "174 cm." Jimin sits down in defeat while Yoongi stands in victory.

He says, "Look who's short now." Chaeyoung and Mina sit and eat while they watch a new bromance unfold. Chaeyoung tells Mina, "I like him." Mina turns shocked and says, "What?" Chaeyoung giggles and says, "I mean as a friend. We should add him to the group." Mina blushes and says, "Oh." She looks at the flustered girl and smirks, "Minari~ do you have a crush on Jimin?" She hides her face in her hair and says, "No.... it's not obvious is it?" Chaeyoung puts her arm over her shoulder and says, "Good thing, he can't read minds."
