It's Not Over Yet, A Varian X Reader COMPLETE

Chapter 2: familiar faces yet strangers

Y/n's P.O.V

   Finally I arrive to Corona four days later than I have expected. Once entering Corona anxiety flooded through my body and I look down clutching the rope close to me that drags a chest full of clothes, personal items, and weapons for protection. I walk into the woods I once used to spend so much time in. Slowing down my pace to look around for a marking on a tree that Varian and I used to climb a lot, we carved a symbol to never forget where the tree is located. I stop and look at the tree with a circle and three lines going through it

   " heh, you found it Y/n, I'm surprised the mark never left despite this being alone for six years, unless..Varian kept the mark on the tree not letting it fade into the bark" I shrug and tie the rope around my shoulder and begin climbing the tree.

   With the extra weight over your shoulder it's much harder to climb the tree so a few three branches up I lean against the bark to catch my breath, once my breathing slows down a little I take the rope from my shoulder and tie it to a branch so that the chest is dangling towards the ground. I climb down and take one last look at the dangling chest

   "I'll come back first I need to find some food and walk around to see if I can find Varian anywhere" everyone seemed to stare at me probably because they thought I just moved here or they try to recognize me,

   don't know which but with all eyes on me I feel anxious and my breath hitches I run into a random store to avoid the stares. I jog to a shelf and lean against it catching my breath I have my hand against my chest.

   "God anxiety sucks" I say in an almost whisper tone.

   I stop leaning against the shelf and look around noticing that I ran into a library. I get an image of Varian and I going in here to look for "The Tales of Flinn Rider" we both used to love that book so much that we would reread it so many times never getting tired of it, I think I might have memorized almost all the words in that book. I start looking around for that book to see if I can find it and read it again.

   After 5 minutes of aimlessly looking around I give up and walk to the front desk, my anxiety levels begin to rise again. I rest my hands on the table and look up at the librarian who seems to be reading a book. I clear my throat before speaking

   "um. hi, uh d-do you still h-have the book 'T-tales of Flinn R-Rider?" I feel so embarrassed by my stuttering I mentally beat myself up for being too timid. The book was closed and gently placed on one side of the desk, a middle aged woman with long dark brown hair and dark almost black eyes looked down at me

   "No we don't have that book anymore someone bought the book not too long ago" my expression faded to a sad look on my face

   "o-oh, if you don't m-mind me as-asking, who bought the b-book?" A small smile formed on her lips

   "If I remember correctly it was a young boy with raven colored hair with a blue streak on his bangs and goggles that rest on his head" that description makes you light up like Christmas lights

   "Really?! H-how recent ago was it?" I lean on the desk so much that I'm practically on the other side of it,

   the librarian scoots back a little and chuckles

   "welll... If I remember I think it was about a month or less ago" my enthusiasm fades a little.

   "Oh, well th-thanks anyways" I say in a low tone.

   I stand up straight and head for the doors pushing them open and walking outside into the herd of people, I try to think of something else.

   "I need to buy some food before I go the full day without eating" I exclaim in a low whisper that only I can hear,

   I look around and spot almost the same exact shops from years ago, sure there are new ones here and there. Still looking around I see many familiar faces to me yet they seem like strangers. I stop in front of this shop and look through the window, I see many treats and my mouth instantly starts to water, I quickly step inside not noticing another person walking out. We almost run into each other but me being a fencer I dodge them

   "Oh I'm sorry ma'am" the boy said not looking at me,

   the only feature I could see is Raven hair with goggles resting on his head. I try to look at his face but he went out the shop and I lost sight of him in the crowd. I can't shake the feeling that he looks all too familiar even though I haven't seen his face.

Time skip to night time cause I'm lazy lol

   The moon has finally shown from it's slumber, just in time for me to finish my food shopping and to retreat back to the tree. I start to climb the tree and go two more branches above the chest that's still dangling, I lean against the trunk to try to get some sleep even if it's beyond uncomfortable. I started drifting off to sleep when I hear footsteps walking towards the tree, curiosity got the better of me and I no longer felt tired just curious. I lean over the branch I'm staying at and and peer down towards the ground to see who or what could be making those footsteps, a boy comes into view from the leaves that hid his features. I notice goggles resting on top of his Raven colored hair, my eyes widen as I notice one small detail that confirmed of who it was. A teal streak ran through his bangs and I see his face.

   'Varian' I thought a rush of happiness floods through my body as I see him walk by,

   his bangs bouncing slightly as he walks, the lantern he's holding aluminating his face showing every single detail from the freckles to the softness of his face. I start leaning down to get a better look at him when my hands slip from the branch causing me to hit my cheek on the branch and fall.

   "AAAHHH!!" I scream as I fall,

   I land back first on the ground and the wind is knocked out of me causing me to cough, Varian quickly turns around and rushes to me

   "Oh my god are you ok?" He puts the lantern down and outstretches his hand to help me up. I look up to him and immediately freeze, he looks like an angel helping me, the light of the lantern showing his perfect face.

   "V-Varian?" I mutter loud enough for him to hear me

   "yea that's me, um do I know you?" He gets closer to get a better view of my face. His eyes widen and begin to fill with tears

   "Y- Y/n is that really you?"
