☾"Detention? Are you serious?" Jody asked after gulping down her last remaining spaghetti that she managed to get despite the long line in the canteen.
"Yeah. Amazing right?" Bea rolls her eyes, watching her friend eat.
Since it's Bea's second year in Norton High, it's her first time getting into detention, and despite it marking into her school records, she finds it quite hilarious. If this was part of her high school bucket list, then it would've been a great experience, or more of an accomplishment.
Detention? check!
"I guess you can't go out with us after school again." Jody sighed, aware that it's her third time skipping their hangouts this week.
Bea notices the sullen expression on her best friend's face, and immediately thought of something to make her feel better. "I'll go out with you some other time, I promise. It's time for me to save up money anyways." She pulls out her wallet and scans through the remaining 3 dollars folded messily in the pocket. After their countless hangouts a last week, she will be left with nothing if she dares to go out again.
"Alright you promised," Jody smiles before chugging down her water. "Anyways, what got you in trouble?" She changes the subject quickly before the bell rings. She shows a teasing grin, knowing that Bea is never the type to get herself into trouble.
"Well, I was slacking off during class for like the fifth time yesterday and got sent to the office." Bea shrugs it off like it wasn't a big deal.
"That's it?" Jody scrunches her nose in disappointment. "I thought it was something big, like you throwing a fit and setting your class on fire." Jody chuckles, making Bea laugh along with her.
"That would be funny." Bea couldn't stop herself from giggling just by imagining her classroom being inflames. She takes a deep breathe in, and opens her mouth to say something. "My teacher was having a rough day, so slacking off during class was enough for me to get in trouble. If only I did set the room on fire because this school gets on my nerves sometimes." She said while playing with her water bottle.
"I agree. I can barely breathe here. Rules in this school are rigid." Jody scoffed.
According to all students, it's true. Norton High is a school that disciplines its students quite moderately. Wearing your uniform improperly, coming to class a minute late, sleeping during lectures, not turning in homework on time, or skipping classes. All of these small things can easily get you in detention. Bigger causes will get you suspended. No matter how ridiculous it sounds, its the only way the school director can do to teach its students properly.
The school bell finally rings. The sound reverberates throughout the entire thin walls of the canteen, alarming all students that 3rd period will be starting soon. Bea throws her trash away, and walked to the opposite direction, waving Jody a goodbye.
Right before she could enter class, her phone rings and she knew that it's her mother because no one calls her during this time of day.
"Hello?" she answers immediately.
"Bea, you better get home early this time or no one will take care of your siblings! Understand me?!" She screams through the phone, and Bea winces as she pulls her phone away from her ear. Before she could say anything back, her mother hangs up instantly, leaving a short beep with the silence that followed after it.
She lets out an exasperated sigh before putting her phone back into her pocket and continued to walk down the hallway.
How can I get home early if I'll be locked up in detention after school? She thought to herself.
