What a waste

Classes went by painfully and Jenny settled on the bleacher at the baseball field with the others. It's a Friday afternoon, and Norton High's baseball crew were practicing for their own upcoming tournament as well. The club room was too suffocating to stay in all the time, so they gathered at the baseball field for some fresh air, and to spend some quality time together before heading home.

" Don't you two have practice ? " Bea asked, looking at Jack and Edna. Out of all five of them, they were the only two with activities every after school.

" Our Coach went home early... " Jack answered as he adjusted himself on the edge of the bleacher. He gazed to the open field, and averts his eyes back at the others before continuing on. "Apparently he had a stomach ache this morning."

They looked at Edna to hear her response. "Being 30 minutes late isn't a big deal. " She smirked, and they all chuckled at her savageness.

They watched as the baseball players scattered throughout the entire field, and continued their game. Jenny's eyes met a random boy standing on the third-base side of the home plate. He picked up his bat, positioned himself properly while he stared back at Jenny. Under his helmet, plus the bright afternoon sunlight, she couldn't distinguish his face properly once he looked away. " Do you guys know his name ?" Jenny asked them while pointing at the guy.

" The one wearing jersey number 6 ? " Jack asked, looking at the wrong person.

" No, number 13" Jenny observed carefully again to see if she said the right number. " Yeah number 13. "

Jack, and the rest scanned the field for the guy Jenny's mentioning about. " The one holding the bat ?" Bea asked, and Jenny nodded her head slightly.

" Him ? That's James Finn. He's a junior." Neil said. Jenny comprehends the information, and watched as James runs across the field after hitting the ball with the bat. " Not everyone really fancies the baseball team. But from what I heard, He gets straight A's like Kyla Cunner. He looks cute though... a cute sporty nerd. " Neil blurted out, forgetting that he already has a boyfriend for a split second.

" You like him ? " Jack asked out loud with a sly grin displayed on his face. Jenny keeps a straight firm expression, and avoids looking at them.

" No... he keeps looking at me that's why. " Jenny assured them, since they know she isn't the type to go on dates, or fall in love with someone. Due to her strict parents constantly nagging her to focus on school, she doesn't have the time to slack off, and rebel against her parents. " You know me, I don't like anyone. " She chuckled.

" As if... you'll eventually fall in love someday. " Neil rolled his eyes with a smirk on his face.

" Someday but not now... " Jenny said. She cleared her throat, and turned around to face them. "Also, there's this place I want to show you guys. " She tells them, changing the subject quickly.

" Where ? " They all asked, voices in sync with one another.

" My brother showed it to me. It's a river in the middle of the woods. We could hang out there someday, and swim. " Jenny pointed at the direction towards the back gate of the campus. Her response astounded them, since they were also unaware of a river located near the school. "Its really pretty..."

" When ? I want to go! " Bea says out loud, excitement bubbling up inside her. If it doesn't include crowded people, partying, or drinking, then she's fine with it. As long as Carl or his friends aren't around to ruin her mood, and to drive her insane. At times, she would want to skip school whenever her anxiety kicks in, because the thought of seeing Carl in the hallways of the school was bothersome, and vexatious. But she can't risked it for another ten plus missing works. All she wanted was a day for herself and her friends. Like the day they all went for a road trip.
