The sun is bright, and it pushed its rays into the sleeping face of a broken soul. Her face was scratched, and it looked like the world chewed her up and spit her out, then step on her. A few scratches littered her face, something magic can get rid of. Her brows furrowed as the light became unbearable to her, piercing through her eyelids and urging her to open her eyes. There was a strange feeling of dread inside of her, and it made her insides churn. Her chest ached, and she can feel her veins pulsing.
Her brows furrowed, and her lips parted slightly. She wanted to groan, but her throat was dry. She can smell death. It surrounded her like a cage, and she can smell blood mixed into it as well. It was faint, but it lingered on her. Her fingers twitched, and it brushed against dead grass. She felt it break apart beneath her fingers, and become dust. She hated the feeling of death all around her as if she was the cause of it. She wanted to cry but felt no tears.
It took everything in her power to open her eyes. A part of her was saying to stay still and rest some more, another part of her was telling her to get up and move. But, there was one, far different from the rest, telling her to do other things. Telling her to get up and regain her powers. Telling her that the end is nearing, and she must act out to prove her worthiness and loyalty. Yet, her aching bones said otherwise, keeping her down on the floor. When her eyelids parted, she cringed as bright light shot inside of her. Her vision spin and it took a while to focus.
She saw the pretty blue sky, and tree leaves peaking out. They were dead. Just like everything around her. Yet, the blue sky made her calm, and it made her want to rest some more. She was comfortable where she kay, especially on the pillow her head rested on. She felt a soothing sensation on her scalp, like someone running their fingers through your hair.
And she jolted back into reality. Her eyes grew wide, and her breathing got thick. She tried to move, but her body was heavy. She tried to call for help, but her throat was dry. She felt scared, her senses running wild, and she has yet to identify the person.
"It's okay," She recognizes the voice, "It's just me..."
Her breathing steadied and she felt an odd wave of serenity washing over her. She leaned her head back slightly, meeting the soft gaze of the man. He smiled down at her with hidden fondness and happiness. His touches were soft, and he made sure to untangle the small twists and knots in her hair. His hair blew in the wind, and if it wasn't for what he was, it would've been a sweet moment.
She refused to believe this was the black wizard everyone was afraid about.
"You ran out of magic power," The man piped up, "It'll take a while for it to regenerate, maybe longer. Not to mention you're injured greatly," His voice calm yet chilling. It sent shivers down her spine, both by his soft and caring tone, and the fear of vulnerability.
He can tell she didn't like this outcome. He can see the way her eyes dart around, and the way she shifted in her spot. She didn't like being weak, not even for a moment. He tried not to show his slight disappointment in her reaction. He thought that she'll be more comfortable around him enough to be weak and not care. Yet, she was acting the opposite of what he expected.
"Zeref," The woman breathed out. She tried not to sound too nervous, just wanting him to stay smiling. It was a bit of a weird sight, but it was much better than him crying and unleashing waves of death. She wasn't sure if she'll be able to dodge it, let alone survive it. She assumes that dragon slayers have tougher bodies and can withstand the death wave, but to what extent? She's sure she'll find out eventually. Though, despite her confidence, she knows that she shouldn't think of herself too highly. For all she knows, dragon slayers could fall just as easily as anyone else.
Zeref's smile only widened, and he tried not to give her more affection than he knows he should. So, he kept on combing his fingers through her hair, sometimes gazing over the scales that are still present on her body. It was amazing to see the changes, but it left a sour taste in his mouth. He pushed down those sour thoughts and decided to just focus on the woman. He kept his smile up, growing warmer at her eyes that seemed to sparkle under the sun rays.
