When Eddy finally woke up it was approaching midday, and he had no recollection of getting home last night. Also, Brett wasn't lying next to him.
He made his way out of bed, stretching, feeling if his body was working properly again. He was feeling a lot better.
He shot on a pair of sweat pants, and ambled out of the room and downstairs, to see if Brett was having breakfast. They'd have to leave for the airport in about an hour, so there was a little bit of time to sit and eat something. He was actually starving, he realised only now. He hadn't eaten anything since yesterday afternoon, so no wonder.
Walking from the elevator into the lobby he saw the familiar hoodied shape, sat on a comfy chair in the corner. As he approached Brett, he saw that he was on the phone.

¨That's awesome, he'll be so happy!¨, he heard him say as he walked up.
Brett turned around then, as if he'd felt Eddy's eyes in his back, and beamed at him.
¨Okay! Talk to you later!¨ he said, and hung up the phone, getting up from his chair.

¨Why will who be so happy?¨Eddy asked, curious what the call could have been about.
¨Oh, something for the sound, no biggie¨, Brett said, but Eddy knew straight away that he was lying.
What the? What was Brett planning?
There was something in Brett's eyes, though, that stopped Eddy from pressing it further. Instead he just said:
¨I'm starving, have you eaten yet?¨
¨Yeah, and I got some for you in a doggie bag, 'cause they were clearing up the breakfast buffet.¨
¨Bro! You're a marvel!¨ Eddy said. ¨Thank you very much!¨
¨Sure, no worries¨, Brett replied. ¨Let's head upstairs and pack, hey?¨
He gave Eddy a take out box that had been on the table in front of him and started walking back to the room.

An hour later, stomach filled, suitcase packed, they were sat in a taxi heading to LAX.
Eddy fell asleep once more on the flight to Canada, and when they arrived he was feeling a little bit more like himself again.

It was going to be a race to the finish line, these last few concerts, and it was also going to be his birthday that week!
Ah, Eddy suddenly thought. Maybe that's what Brett had lied about? Maybe he was orchestrating another surprise? His last one had been so awesome...
He smiled to himself at the thought of lovely Brett, arranging something so sneakily.

It was late, when they got to the hotel, but Eddy was feeling pretty awake now after having been asleep for about 16 out of the last 24 hours. So when Brett suggested they go out with some of the crew, he happily said yes, and before he knew it they were in a night club, a cocktail in their hand.
¨Do not under any circumstance let me have to many of these!¨ he said in Brett's ear, with feeling. He had no desire to repeat Jägerbull night.
¨No worries, I won't!¨ Brett shouted over the pounding music. ¨Don't let me either, okay?¨
¨Okay¨, Eddy said, before pulling Brett onto the dance floor.
They were dancing close together, when Eddy got a hard shove from behind, almost throwing him against Brett. He turned around in shock, clutching at his aching side.
¨Eww! Disgusting gays, go somewhere else!¨ a man he'd never seen before hissed in his face.
The man was big, his head shaved close, his fists were balled and he stank of alcohol. He looked like he was about to hit him. Eddy recoiled in disgust at this horrible stranger, and at his words.
Brett hadn't heard what the man said, clearly, and he was looking at Eddy with consternation.
Eddy just had to get away, and he had to get Brett to safety.
¨Come on, let's go!¨ he shouted, taking Brett's hand and almost running away from the menacing stranger. They moved quickly off the dance floor and towards the bathrooms, where it was quieter.

Eddy leant against the wall in the hall before the bathrooms, shaking, his hands on his knees.
¨Fuck!¨ he mumbled.
Brett was looking at him in concern. ¨What happened? What did he say? Why did he shove you? Why did he want to hit you?¨
Eddy opened his mouth to tell him, but then he snapped it shut again. Did he really bring want to bring all this up again with Brett? No.

He shook his head, determined not to bother Brett with it, and just said:
¨Never mind, it was probably nothing. Can we go back to the hotel now?¨
Brett just nodded, but Eddy knew he wasn't buying it. Shit.
