Eddy stood in the sand, staring out over the sea one last time. Their suitcases were in the hallway of their little thatched cabin and Brett was picking up his last things.
They were about to go, and he felt so sad.
He heard Brett's soft footfalls behind him just as a single tear spilled over and rolled down his cheek. He wiped it away softly and sighed.
He turned around and saw Brett looking pretty much like he was, and he smiled wryly.
¨I'm really gonna miss this place...¨ he said, putting his arm around Brett and pulling him close.
¨Yeah...¨
Brett snuggled into him and they stood for a minute, enjoying the crashing of the waves on the beach.
Then Brett moved and looked at him.
¨Eddy, this was the best honeymoon I could ever have asked for. Thank you.¨
Eddy smiled and leaned over to kiss him. ¨I love you, Bretty.¨

A couple of hours later Eddy leant back in the cramped airline seat, while he stared out of the window at the vanishing islands.
¨Until next time...¨ he mumbled under his breath.
He felt Brett's hand intertwining with his own, and when he looked at him Brett was grinning.
¨What's funny?¨ he asked.
¨Well, I was just thinking about that very interesting flight we had a while back when we went to Paris.¨
Eddy's brows furrowed. He knew exactly which flight Brett was talking about: it was the flight they had joined the Mile High Club.
¨That wasn't funny, though? That was all kinds of awesome?¨
¨Oh yeah, the awesomest¨, Brett hurried to say, his face lighting up at the recollection. ¨But I was just reading the other day about this couple who did something similar to what we did and got busted by the stewardess!¨
¨No! Oh my God!¨ Eddy said, picturing it in his head as he put his hand over his mouth. ¨Oh my God, imagine coming out of the stall and finding someone there, staring you down...¨
¨Yeah! And apparently she threatened police and everything. So I think we got quite lucky.¨
Eddy shook his head in amazement and smiled.
¨Well, in that case I'm even happier, because it just so happens to be one of my most favouritest memories ever.¨
Brett put his head on his shoulder. ¨Yeah, mine too. But nothing will ever top the first night we spent together, when I realised you loved me back.¨
Eddy snuggled closer to his love, thinking back to that night when they had first come together as one, where every touch and every breath had erased months of longing, and had cemented how they felt about each other. The night he got to know all of the man he loved. Yeah, he couldn't think of anything that would ever top that.
He looked at his husband and whispered:
¨I agree. To be honest, I knew I'd never want to be without you again even then.¨
He felt Brett's smile against his shoulder and he held him tight, until he felt his breath slow down and his body relax into sleep.

A few hours later Brett was still asleep, and Eddy felt like they would be stuck on this plane forever. God, how tedious was flying! It had been very worth it, definitely, but he was very ready to be home now.
He closed his eyes, willing himself to fall asleep, and he must have dozed off because he woke up when his ears started popping. When he looked out the window he saw Australia under him. Home sweet home.
Brett was awake as well and he put the book he'd been reading down.
¨Good morning¨, he said softly, smiling at him, and he grinned. ¨You looked cute, sleeping.¨
¨So did you, earlier.¨ Eddy said, waggling his eyebrows.
The plane touched down a few minutes later and he let out a big sigh. Finally.
Brett, who knew how Eddy felt about flying, squeezed his hand.
¨We're there, flying is over¨, he said softly. ¨I would kiss you, but we're back down under.¨

Oh yeah. Back to where there could be no public displays of affection.
¨Oh well¨, Eddy said, waggling his eyebrows again, ¨I'll kiss you plenty when we're back in our apartment.
Brett stroked his knuckles softly with his thumb, and Eddy leaned into the loving gesture.
¨We'll have to go back to the island soon.¨
¨Very soon¨, Brett said, and the words sounded like a promise.
The plane came to a halt at the gate, and they got up to walk to yet another baggage claim.
