Jacob was still holding her hand, and Amy didn't feel like letting go. It wasn't the fact that she was weak, and could barely move. It was something, but she couldn't put her finger on it just yet.
She felt the warmth of his hand, and held tight. She was scared in a world like this, and she didn't know what to do. She felt helpless, and stupid.
Why did she risk her life like this? Holding a rock she never knew? Why did she let her anger get a hold of her, ignoring what wise words Jacob had spoke to her? She was an idiot, nonetheless. And she would never forgive herself.
"Water."
Jacob, who was feeling the energy in her hands, grew confused. "What?"
"I need water," she said quickly. Her voice was dry, and she let out a cough. She hated feeling so dependant on people, she liked being the opposite. Free, like a bird spreading its wings over the evening sky. Right now she felt like a fish in a bowl, bumping in the glass like an ass, and waiting to be fed.
"Of course," said Jacob, letting go of his hand. As he got up, he asked if she'd like anything else.
She shook her head, and gave a weak smile. Although she hated being dependant, she liked when Jacob helped her out. He was exceptional, she figured.
He gave a nod, and went out the room. He went back to the door and told her he'd be back. Then he went to the water fountain, got his water bottle. Feeling idiotic, he went to the kitchen in the staff lounge, and saw no one there.
He peered through the room, with the door open in an inch. When he felt safe, he opened wide. "Mary?" he asked. He walked around the room, waiting for her call, but it never came.
Oh well, he thought. He went to the kitchen, and took a glass. As he filled up the water, he thought about Amy. He felt like an asshole for being so harsh to her. He felt even worse to leave her in a situation where she had gotten hurt. In other words, he would probably never forgive himself.
He filled the water with the glass, watching it rise up to the tip. Once he finished, he turned the tap off, and felt a glow, a hum.
Fuck off rock, he screamed in his mind. But it was so irresistible, that he took it out. He put the glass gently on the counter, and held the rock tight. Then he felt he glow, the power. Why was this? Could it be the anger he felt on himself?
The glow however, was faint. And when he eased down, it had no light. He, with ease, put the rock back in his back pocket, and got the glass quickly. He rushed out of the room, leaving the door wide.
He bumped into Helen.
The glass fell to the ground, and smashed into smithereens.
"Oh my God!!" Helen screamed as some of the water went on her red dress. "What the fuck, little boy? Don't you have eyes?!"
Jacob quickly went down, mumbling an apology. Stupidly, he put his finger on one of the broken prices, and winced.
"How stupid can you get? You ruined my dress and poked yourself with a broken glass. God gave you a brain. Learn to use it!!" She muttered more insults, and looked at her dress in horror, she yelled more and more, but Jacob muted her sounds. She went back to where she came from, and Jacob looked frantically for a broom.
Marijorie was walking to the staff lounge when she noticed Jacob. "Oh Dear Lord," she cried. She came to his aid. "What happened, son?"
Jacob explained to her exactly what happened, and she shook her head. "Honey, oh God. Well okay. I'll clean up this mess, go get a glass for your Amy. No worries."
