As the bright sun unlocked a new day, Fireball woke up feeling a little better, emotionally. Stepping out of his mother's cave, that overlooked he lake and gardens, the little dragon could see that many dragons were still celebrating from the night before. From nowhere Amos appeared beside Fireball. He just stared at his little friend.
"Fireball, I know it will be hard to leave here, so maybe we should just go now. We can visit as often as you like. We can visit as often as you like. I perused the prince's journal. He wrote a lot about you and I. Clearly he knew something we didn't. He knew we would be fighting together, but he also refers to a very special wizard, we will meet one day. Seems you two will be very close and you will help protect them, at least until they can protect themselves. That wizard is supposed to play an important role in helping us defeat, how did the prince put it, an ever-growing evil power. It seems until that day we will have to protect the family, to ensure the child is born. That starts with the prince's son, Eric."
Fireball was ready for the challenge. He needed to help others. He couldn't protect Kaida. He only hoped he was capable of protecting the prince's heirs better. He thought working with Amos would help fill the painful void he felt after Kaida died.
Fireball looked at Amos and acknowledged he was ready to leave. He told him he would miss his mother and friends, but he would not miss the place, not after so much death and destruction. He thought working with Amos brought him true purpose and he just knew his father would be proud.
Elyse approached fireball and Amos. With Endrik and Dronin right behind her, she handed him a whistle.
"Fireball, this is a special whistle that the sea dragons use. If you ever need us, get near the ocean or a river that feeds it and blow the whistle under water. The unique sound will alert sea dragons nearby and they will pass on the call until it reaches us. We will come to help you. If we have passed our families and friends will carry on. You will always have our help. You are a very special dragon, Fireball. You're cute too,"
Elyse kissed Fireball and he blushed. Endrik and Dronin came forward to hug their friend and say their good byes.
After the others left, Fireball gave his mother a big hug. He promised to visit and also promised to let her know where they were living, once they settled.
Amos approached Malvina. He attempted to hug her, but she was much larger than he, so he really just stretched his arms around her stomach. Malvina hugged him back, squeezing a little too tight.
"Please take care of my son." She whispered to Amos.
Trying to recover and catch his breath Amos just nodded and handed Malvina a stone.
"Please take this stone. If you ever need us, rub the stone. We will come to help you, wherever you are. I can track the stone anywhere, even to another world."
Amos smiled and winked at Malvina. Then he disappeared into a smoke and funneled into a backpack on Fireball's back. As the little dragon prepared to take off, he paused a second. He had almost forgot the little chest with the ruby stone, hidden inside. He raced to his mother's cave to retrieve it. Stuffing the box into his backpack, he waived to his friends and took to the sky. Only seconds passed before Fireball disappeared, way above the clouds.
