Over the next few months Marcello continued to send wizards to attack the prince, but he never accompanied them. They knew that Marcello would eventually arrive in person to kill the prince and steal the trunk, but when, they wondered? Alexander had considered going after Marcello, but Amos and the others talked him out of it. The World Wizarding Council would never approve of one of their council members attacking another wizard, even if the wizard was pure evil. Innocent people would almost certainly die.

The prince decided to travel far away where nobody knew him, as he wanted time to reflect. He told Fireball he should go home. He assured Fireball and Amos that they would know when to return.

"Marcello will not find me where I'm going," said the prince, confidently. "I can't stay away forever because then Marcello would just start killing innocent witches and wizards. I will be back soon."

Once the prince had left, Fireball decided it was time to go home, at least for a short time. He wanted to see his mother, his friends, and especially Kaida. Amos decided to join him. He figured it would give him time to work on some of his advanced spells without the distraction of other wizards.

When they arrived at Finstock, Fireball's friends were waiting for him on the beach. Surprisingly to the little dragon, his mother was there too. It was clear they had been worried. Kaida was at Fireball's side the moment he touched down. As Fireball flew to greet his mother and Drake, Kaida flew above Fireball, playfully dropping shell after tiny shell on his head. Finally, his mother interrupted his story.

"Fireball. I think you should maybe go spend some time with Kaida. You can tell us your stories later. She really missed you, and although she may not know it, I know you like her too. Just tell her."

The little dragon turned his brightest shade of red again. Amos chuckled. He had been around a lot of dragons, but he had never seen one actually turn a completely different colour.

Kaida landed, beaming as Fireball went to talk to her.

Eventually the dragons left the beach and headed back to their community behind the wall they had built. Amos inquired about the prince's son. The dragons told him Ashneel brought him by a couple times every week, but most of the time they stayed at his home. The dragons knew he was near them, but they had never been to his dwelling. Amos did not seem worried. He had a lot of trust in Ashneel and he did know how to find him. Amos told the dragons it was late, and he needed a good night's sleep. Perhaps he and Fireball could visit Ashneel and the prince's son the next day.
