Amos smiled at Fireball. "Well we should go retrieve that wand. I assume after that we will part ways for a while. Afterall, I am a wizard and you want no part of wizards."
Fireball felt bad. He didn't know what to say. He liked Amos. He didn't like most wizards, but he liked Amos. Fireball was silent as they prepared to fly back to Finstock. Amos shrunk the trunk, put a protective spell on it, so nobody could see it, then he tucked it inside his robe.
When they were ready to leave, Amos secured the castle with several spells and he also had the reconstructed stone giant, stand outside in plain view, to deter any unwanted guests. Finally, he turned the wand on himself and disappeared into a stream of smoke. The smoke trail blew into Fireball's pack, which was secured to his back.
Fireball soared into the sky. This time he was much more alert, ready for an enemy attack. He flew straight up, getting far above the clouds, which allowed him clearer visibility. This made it more difficult for the enemy to sneak up on him.
It was a hot evening, even as the sun began to set. Fireball thought about Kaida and his mother, but he was not letting it distract him. He wanted to be very alert so they were not vulnerable to enemy attacks.
The trip home proved to be non-eventful. The evil wizards clearly retreated for the time being. The air was cooler higher up, but it was still warm, with just a light breeze. Fireball just flew, focussing his thoughts on kaida, his home and Amos removing the wand. He sped up, continuing to look around him ensuring he and Amos were safe.
Nearing Finstock, Fireball slowed down. He approached the beach area slower than normal. None of his friends were there to greet him as they always did. Fireball sensed something wasn't right. Cautiously he landed. Immediately a thick, dark cloud billowed out of the pack. It swirled in front of the little dragon, quickly being replaced by a tall wizard.
Amos looked at Fireball in a concerned manner. "What is wrong, my friend?" he asked.
Fireball looked back at Amos, "I don't know what is wrong. But something does not feel right. I don't see any of my friends and they are always on the beach when I arrive home. It's too quiet here."
Amos also felt a bad vibe. He immediately had his wand out and he was ready. Fireball went on the alert too. They decided to head to Fireball's secure community, but cautiously. As they neared the wall, Fireball could hear loud noises, but Amos heard nothing. He was quick to explain to Fireball that the security the wall possessed to keep wizards out shielded any sound from inside to wizards.
"We can't hear anything inside the walls Fireball, but if you hear noises we better get inside fast to see what is going on."
