A disgusted Elyse looked at the others. "It appears Dronin was indeed not the first dragon kidnapped and it is obvious where they dump the remains when they finish with them. Fausto, I have an idea to keep the wizards from following us. Let's gather up some of these large bones."

No sooner had they gathered the bones, they were off, back to the rendezvous point. Drake and Endrik were almost dragging Dronin. As if he wasn't already hurt enough, the last fall down the hill had done him in. He was almost no help at all. His body was starting to shut down. Finally they reached the hole and everyone sighed a relief, while Elyse began to implement her plan.

'Zzzt!'

Elyse cried out and fell down. She stood right back up, clearly in pain. Everyone turned their heads to see a lone wizard racing toward them, casting spells.

'Zzzztt!'

Elyse was hit a second time. This time she did not go down, but the painful expression on her face told Fireball that she was injured. Then Drake was hit. He was knocked back a bit, but took the hit a little better than Elyse had.

One by one the wizard managed to hit the dragons. Endrik, like Elyse, was affected worse by the spells. About 30 feet out, the wizard stopped. He raised his wand high in the air and the tip began to turn a brighter colour. The first blast from it hit Endrik and he was thrown backwards, tumbling until he rolled up against the invisible wall. Next Drake was hit. He was also knocked backwards, but did not tumble, faring a little better than his friend. The wizard laughed as his wand's tip grew brighter and he blasted out another, more intense spell. The spell hit Fireball squarely on his back. He barely flinched, turning to face the wizard.

Unaffected by the spells, Fireball flew straight at the wizard. The wizard continued to fire spell after spell. Some spells hit his friends, but any spell that hit Fireball just bounced off him. Reaching the wizard, a furious Fireball blasted a flame at him. When he stopped the flame, nothing was left where the wizard had stood except a small pile of smouldering embers.

The dragons all licked their wounds and gathered together, staring at little Fireball. Everyone else had been hurt in some way by the wizard's spells. The sea dragons appeared to be the most vulnerable. But Fireball had been immune to the spells. Drake smiled at his friend as he patted him on the back, glancing over at the charred remains.
