The dragons stared at Kaida's lifeless body as Fausto reached out and nudged her again. This time, Elyse was ready and abruptly pushed Fausto out of the way. In doing so, Fausto stumbled backwards, tripped and fell down. Elyse paid no attention to Fausto, turning and picking Kaida up. Kaida showed no signs of life, but Elyse pushed her face right into Kaida's and then pulled away.
"She is breathing." Elyse said excitedly. "I think she is going to be okay, but what happened? We just saw her falling."
Fireball wasn't' sure himself, but he tried to explain.
"We were flying along and Kaida passed me, then I heard a loud noise, like she hit something, but there was nothing there. After that she fell out of the sky, straight down. I raced toward her, but I couldn't reach her before she hit the ground."
Elyse looked at Endrik and Drake. It made no sense. Drake walked up to the top of the hill, looking for any clue. He saw nothing. He moved a little farther forward. Suddenly, he walked straight into the invisible barrier. He swung his arm forward, but it was stopped. The others looked up at him.
"There is something here," Said Drake. "I can't see it, but there is something here. It's like a wall that you can see right through!"
The other dragons looked at Drake as if he was losing his sanity, but they moved forward for a closer look. Elyse still held Kaida. She finally began to stir a little. They all reached past Drake and were surprised when they actually touched something that wasn't there. Fireball flew straight up and checked higher. The same thing occurred when he reached his arm out. This strange barrier rose high up into the sky. The dragons were very confused.
Endrik looked at the others, a smug look on his face. "It's wizard magic! They did this. They are here on the island. We are not alone, and they took Dronin!"
Nobody questioned Endrik's theory now. It made sense, but why were the wizards on this island? And why were they hiding behind this barrier?
"We have to find a way in," said Elyse. "If the wizards are behind all this then they likely have Dronin and we need to help him. We need to get him away from them."
The others all agreed with Elyse, but nobody had any idea of how to break through a barrier that they couldn't even see. Fausto suggested they wait until some of the wizards came out, but they had no idea where or when the wizards would exit the barrier. They needed a better plan.
Elyse said there was an elder in her community who often talked of magic and wizards. She thought he might be able to help them. He lived farther off shore and much deeper in the ocean, so she suggested just she and Endrik should visit him.
Fireball, Drake, Fausto and a dazed Kaida flew home. Elyse and Endrik flew to their home. Elyse promised to go visit the elder dragon and they all planned to meet back at the barrier spot the next morning.
