Asma
"You dumbass!" I shout at General Ryan as the last of the electricity shoots through my body.
"I agree, this was not the brightest of plans, but now we're free," she exclaims optimistically.
"No we're not," I yell. "Leader Hill didn't believe shit you said and now I got four, no, five people gunning after my head,."
"They won't kill you. Not with their precious Sienna still inside of you," she says stupidly.
I stare at the woman, wondering if she's serious. She can't seriously think she's intelligent. "Well, they don't know she's still here 'cause you made them think she was dead! How in the ever loving fuck were you deemed one of the smartest scientists?" If I could, I'd rip this woman's head off.
"Relax," she sighs, seeming to find nothing wrong with anything. "Now, we're gonna go back and begin running tests on Sienna to figure out the code, activate it, then you can go leave."
I study her face for deceit, and like I expected, she's full of it. "Oh yeah?" I ask, not buying it. More than likely, I'll need to fight my way to freedom. But, nothing has ever been easy for me.
"Yes, but for now you have to play slow and Sienna can't know anything. So every time I need to speak with her, you will have to disappear," she says.
"I can be quiet in the back of her mind," I bargain.
General Ryan deadpans at me. "I've known you for a few days and I know for a fact you would not last long."
I roll my eyes at that very accurate statement and shift my gaze to the window. "So you're saying you're gonna kill me every time you need her back," I conclude.
"Yes, we will," she responds. "It'd be best if you cooperated and we didn't have to chase you down every time we needed to put you down."
"Don't say it like that," I snap. "You're not putting me down. I'm just going to sleep."
"Whatever floats your boat," General Ryan exhales.
The rest of the car ride is silent until we pull up the to hotel-style building. Kamar is waiting outside and automatically a smile graces my face. I want to hurry General Ryan, but I also don't want to seem too eager. I'm so focused on staring at Kamar that I don't notice her observing me.
Once the car stops, I exit as casually as I can, before sauntering to Kamar. "Nice to see you waiting for me," I converse, watching his small smirk.
"Just taking my orders," he says, nodding his head towards General Ryan.
"Orders," I echo, smiling at him.
We stare each other down before he looks away to look at General Ryan.
"She's on your hands for now," she says, pissing me off. I'm not just some kid to be passed around. "After today, kill her. We need Sienna for tomorrow to start our tests."
She walks in, effectively dismissing both of us, and I flip her off. At Kamar's chuckle, I turn to him and flick him off too.
"You know," he starts, "You have a lot of anger and hatred in your heart for people who don't really deserve it."
My face twists in disgust at his dumbass sentence. "I'd like to know who you're referring to," I hum. "'Cause there's a perfectly good reason why I hate the people I hate.
"Oh yeah? Why do you hate General Ryan?" He asks, turning around and walking in.
I follow, and prepare to defend myself. "For starters, she kidnapped me. Then she killed me. She treats like I'm five and not a genetically-modified killer who could snap her neck easily."
"Okay, true," he laughs. "But what about me?"
"What about you?" I frown.
He raises a brow and gestures to himself. "Why are you so mean to me?"
"Maybe because you're part of the people keeping me trapped here. Also, oh I don't know, you killed me?" My voice raises slightly.
He waves it off as if it's no big deal, and he turns around a corner. "We fight and knock each other out all the time," he counters. "You die sometimes, so what. You came back right?"
"Yeah but this... body," I say gesturing to myself, "has to die twice for me to come back. And dying is painful. You guys are not the good guys here."
"And you are?" He questions.
I open my mouth to say yes, but it's based on perspective really. I've been the enemy to any and everyone. Even to the one person who somewhat knows why I do what I do and could somewhat sympathize with me. However, Sienna's objective is opposite of mine and we were bound to be on separate sides of good and bad. Just like with General Ryan and I. Whatever is her ultimate goal, surely deactivating the Soldiers is not it, I'm sure it's opposite of mine. Therefore, we're enemies.
"I am a good guy to myself, yes," I finally answer.
"And we are the good guys to ourselves," he shrugs.
I nod my head, there is no way to win this argument, and continue to follow him in silence. Once we reach a room, he opens it and I marvel at the coziness of it. Two beds sit on opposite sides along with a dresser and a t.v stand. A small round table with two chairs sits close to the corner of the room and a white carpet runs along the room floor.
"Your room," I assume.
"Nah, I just took us to some random Soldier's room," he fires sarcastically.
He runs and jump onto what I guess his bed and kicks off his shoes. I take my shoes off at the door and feel the softness of the carpet. "You planning on killing me here?" I question.
"And risk staining my carpet? Of course not," he scoffs. "Now come over here and relax. You're not free yet but that doesn't mean you have to be treated like a prisoner." He grabs a remote and turns on the T.V., settling on watching sports.
I walk over to him and decide to sit next to him, slightly away from him. It's uncomfortable, and my back will start to hurt, but I can't get too comfortable here.
God forbid I actually like it here.
