Zak POV

My head was throbbing as I opened my eyes. I was laying on the floor of the cabin, Rana looking down at me. She smiled and brushed my cheeks yet I could see tears pricking her eyes.

"Babe?" I groaned and she hushed me. I kept my head on her lap and sighed.

"You're okay. I knew I should have been here." I heard the door and glanced over. The guys looked scared and hesitant about even approaching. "He's okay. He's himself."

"What happened?" I mumbled and Aaron chuckled.

"Dude. You're gonna shit yourself when we get back to the hotel and you see this footage." I sighed and tried to sit up, yet my vision turned dark. I swore I could see shadow figures along the walls. A shiver ran up my spine as I looked to Rana.

"It's okay. I know you can see them, but you need to ignore them. We need to get you to the car and back to the hotel." She whispered, her hand going to my face and resting against my cheek. She stood as Aaron and Billy helped me up. The shadows moved away from wherever she walked, as if they feared her. I let the guys help me to the car and I laid down as they broke down the equipment.

"What am I seeing?" I mumbled as Rana played with my hair, my head in her lap.

"Lost souls. Nameless faces. Luci and I call them shadows. They can't speak but they cling to people for energy in hopes to understand what's wrong with them. They're stuck though. They're dead and they don't even know their own names. Usually addicts." She sighed and I could feel her other hand rest on my chest. "You scared me."

"I don't even know what happened." My jaw tensed as I feel emotions course through me.

"You were possessed by a demon I know. You'll have flashes of things... he's gone, but his energy will linger in you for a few days. Like a healing wound." I opened my eyes and looked to her. Her neck was purple in the dim car light.  She was looking out the window, hands rubbing my chest under my shirt. It seemed to comfort her more than I. I could feel how warm the rosary was against my chest, she must have charged it when I was out and slipped it back on me. How it got off in the first place I didn't know.

"I hurt you?"

"You didn't. Don't think like that because that wasn't you." I sighed and closed my eyes, focusing on her touch and how it sent electricity through my veins.

It wasn't long before we were all back in the hotel. Billy had the laptop and was scrubbing through Aaron's footage. Rana was in the bathroom, the shower water running.

"You sure you wanna see this tonight?" I nodded and Billy slid the laptop to me. I felt ice cold watching what looked like me lash out. My friends were in fear of me. Rana wasn't yet even when my hands went around her throat she coaxed the demon inside to get distracted. Dare I say I felt relief when I saw her pin me and hold my own rosary to harm the thing inside me. I nearly jumped when I felt a cold hand on my shoulder.

"Easy. You're okay." Rana whispered and sat on the empty space beside me. I handed Aaron the laptop and nodded.

"I'll see if I can find a way to use that footage. Minus the angel bits." Aaron nodded before he closed the laptop.

"Get some rest man. Holler if you need anything." He wandered down the hallway to his bedroom in the suite. I sighed and laid down, my head in Rana's lap. I could smell sage burning and sighed softly.

"Cleanse?"

"Definitely required. Think of it as getting shot and the bullet exploding. You've got fragments stuck in you. Multiple cleanses are required." I sat up and looked down. My head was already pounding. I turned to her and pulled her towards me so she'd sit on my lap. I ran my hands along her thighs that were on either side of me. She kissed my forehead before moving to my lips. "You scared me. Not scared me with fear of danger but fear of you getting hurt my love." She removed my glasses, stroking under my eyes.

"I should have brought you. I'm just always scared of hurting you." I moved one hand to brush her bruised neck. She chuckled slightly. "It isn't funny Rana."

"It is because if I die... I go back to heaven. I'd be right there waiting for you." She moved to hold my face in her hands, peppering me with a few kisses. Her wings came out and coiled around us. I was surrounded by the beauty of the feathers. I gently ran my fingers along a feather.

"Can angels be with mortals?"

"You're no mortal. You're so much more daring."

"I'm only now learning you don't see this world like I do. You see these... shadows. Ghosts.... witches see you for what you are Rana. How long can I protect you?"

"Worrying will kill you. You can't worry about me. You can't worry about how this world sees me." I sighed as her wings went away. I was tired, yet I scooped her up and wandered to the bed. She grabbed the sage and lit it, gently blowing it in my direction. I could feel a cool breeze in my chest cavity before she sat it down and pulled me down to lay beside her. She was drained for sure, eyes heavy as she kissed my chest. "I love you."

"I love you too." I was wide awake as she drifted off in my arms. How could I use these temporary powers to my advantage? Maybe a peak at the other side would be possible now.
