Smoke, it had filled the air around her. Collapsing her lungs as she had ducked as lowly as she could in the burning embers. Her hands had carefully maneuvered around the many bodies that had already fallen victim. Victim to another house raid, a raid that had been spreading across the west coast. Small towns being taken over, small places. The girl's hands had gripped onto the last necklace her mother had given her.

She had hardly escaped out of the building as she had stepped back. Eyes looking back to the black smoke that had now taken over the sky. Creating a canopy over the town she had grown up in. The town she called home for so many years. Her body froze up as the house had began to collapse from the lack of support. The girl was ready now, ready accept that she was going to die in the burst of flames.

Well she thought she was going to die in the collapse of the building. However that pain, that sting. It never came rather her eyes looked up to the blonde who's arms had gripped onto the girl. Getting her out of the way of the rush of flames that had escaped the house that had now crumbled to the ground. The little girl had looked up to the woman, her breath labored as she had looked back to the house before her eyed landed on the girl.

"Are you insane? You had enough time to get away." The woman's words weren't harsh, the tone was harsher but nothing about the words had became harsh. The girl had opened her mouth to speak before her eyes looked up to the new approaching feet.

"Daya you know next time maybe just ask Luke to come with you. What are you hoping to do? Figure out who's burning all these towns. They're probably just some small group who's getting there satisfaction and adrenaline rush terrorizing these places." The blonde above them had looked down to the girl before her eyes played on the blonde above her. "A survivor? They never leave anyone alive." The woman spoke as Daya, as the girl assumed had gotten up.

"No, but I don't think this one intended to stay alive any longer either." Daya spoke as she had extended her hand out for the girl to take.

"Violet. My name is Violet, and I didn't want to die. I just didn't think I could've out ran the flames." Violet finally spoke her hand grabbing for the blonde as she had been stood up on her feet.

"Well Violet, this is Daya and I'm Caroline. Usually you would've met Beckett. Maybe Luke if he wasn't busy with his own kids. Which I need to get back to mine." Caroline spoke as she had looked to Daya. The girl had rubbed her hands on Violets arms.

"Your family was in that house weren't they?" Daya spoke as Violet had nodded her head shortly.

"They where all killed. My brother locked me in the closet when the men came. They set the house ablaze. I had hardly gotten out." Violet spoke as Daya had stripped her jacket off pulling it on the girls shoulders.

"How old are you Violet?" Daya spoke as the girl had looked up.

"Twelve." The girl spoke.

"So what, you just adopt a kid?" Alex spoke as she had looked to her sister. Daya's eyes laid on the girl getting a short exam after the fire. Her eyes flickered over to her sister.

"Well yeah I feel responsible for her now. I saved her life before those fires could have taken her. She's the only person I've found to have survived those attacks." Daya spoke as she had moved her eyes back to the girl still covered in the ashes of the fires. Hair still a mess as Daya had wrapped her arms around her torso.

"Well I know you make the best decisions for yourself." Alex spoke as she set her hand on Daya's shoulder. The girl had smiled slightly.

"The right thing or what I think is -"

"Daya?" The girls eyes snapped up to the doctor as she had started for the room. "She wanted to speak to you. I'll be back in a few minutes. She's healthy besides needing to flush her lungs out." The man spoke as Daya had watched him leave. She turned back to the girl who had hesitantly looked up.

"You don't have to take me in. I know a really good foster place. They take in the kids from the fires. I don't want to burden you, and your life. Maybe you have kids of your own. I wouldn't want to intrude on that." Violet spoke as she had looked up to the woman. Daya wore a small smile on her face as she shook her head.

"Trust me, I wish I could have my own kids. But my body isn't fit for that. It's a little broke if you understand that. I wouldn't put you into a system when I feel as if I saved your life. I feel that responsibility to keep you safe now." Daya states as she sat on the bed. Her arm tucked around the girl. "And believe me, survivors always have better stories to tell."

"What about your own family? I mean what happens when you want someone -"

"Stop there. Don't say I'll just want some other kid. No matter if I own one or a thousand kids. I wouldn't choose favorites. That's never been how it's worked in my life. If I choose favorite. Then I'd have a favorite friends, favorite sparing buddy. Favorite sibling," Daya had slowly lowered her voice a short smile on her face, "and trust me I have quite the number of siblings to choose from." She states Violet tugged a smile on her face as she rested her head onto Daya's shoulder.

"Thank you, for saving me last night. I would've been killed by the flames had you not been there." Violet spoke softly as she had shut her eyes letting out a deep breath.

"Trust me I would've had it no other way." Daya muttered.
