The morning routine went smooth. Car ride, exiting and saying goodbye to his dad and entering the school building.
But that's about it.
Damien was sitting at his desk, bored out of his mind while waiting for the lesson to begin.
The murmuring, the whispers and the laughing made him nervous. The kid couldn't concentrate on any of the words around him so he decided to block it out. When the teacher arrived and started his lesson, the murmuring didn't stop, of course, but he at least tried to concentrate, while Roman walked through the room, inspecting all the children.
Like the other days, Damien did his work but didn't raise his hand a single time until the break finally came.
He quickly left the room together with Roman and pulled out his drawing utensils. Roman looked over his shoulder, curiously watching the boy.Damien sat the pencil down on the paper, ready to draw the first lines, when he stopped his movements. The kid looked at the white paper for a few seconds, before starting to pack his stuff back into his backpack.
"What's wrong?", Roman asked slightly worried.
"I won't can finish it anyways", the boy mumbled.
"What? Why would you say that?", Roman asked, now sitting down criss crossed in front of Thomas' adopted son.
"I tried to draw all week but always got interrupted...", the kid sighed sadly."You shouldn't let the evil folks discourage you to do what you like, they're just jealous that they're not as good as you are", Roman said while patting his back.
"But I can't stop them, I'm not as strong as you are", Damien said, looking at the ground.
Roman smiled sympathetically.
"You might think that you're not as strong as me, but you're still stronger than them", he said. Damien looked up at his brother-like friend. "You think so?""I don't think, I know!", he smiled brightly.
"Now come on, how about you show me what you wanted to draw?", Roman asked and continued to watch as Damien pulled out his drawing materials again.
This time, no one interrupted. When the bell rang, which told Damien to go back inside, he wasn't nearly done. But he started.
While classes passed, Damien kept drawing with Romans motivation.
At the end of the day, he had finished the doodling and line art. At home he will color the rest."Hey looser!", the kid heard a high voice behind him, while waiting at the parking lot for his dad.
Damien's smile fell and he turned around, making the black haired girl that called him giggle. "He reacted!", she laughed and Damien sighed, looking away again.Roman looked at the three kids, that kept bullying the boy, angrily. Both of them hoped Thomas would be there soon. The cruel children wouldn't keep going if an adult was here. An adult they could see, at least.
The blonde boy and the brunette girl that where always at the bossy girls side looked a little uneasy and shared a few glances, but except that, they kept quiet.
The girl screeched offended when Damien away while the other two kids next to her made faces.
Luckily, Roman and Damien's prayers had been heard, as a well known car drive into the parking lot.
