Damien now looked up at the teacher. "I just have a dad", he said, remembering her threat to call his parents.
"Oh, I'm sorry"
"Don't be", Damien interrupted. "Until two weeks ago, I had no parents at all. That's why the two kids made fun of me, for being adopted. So I said that at least my dad wanted me. That's all I said to them", the boy said, staring her dead in the eyes. While Virgil wheezed in the background, the teacher looked pretty uncomfortable.

She turned around to look at the boys. "Is that true?"
Asked kids didn't dare to meet her eye and just stared at the ground. She took this as an obvious yes, so the teacher quickly looked back at the little boy. "I'm sorry Damien"

The boy looked up at her and nodded, before looking back at Virgil. The side smiled proudly at the boy, knowing he himself probably wouldn't have talked back at her in that situation.
"Come on buddy, next lesson's gonna start soon", Virgil said, ruffling the boys hair slightly. For others people, it must have looked like the wind.

Damien happily listened, putting his lunch away. The two entered the school building again and went to the room where his lesson will be.
"Hey Damien, What kinda music do you listen to?", Virgil asked suddenly. Damien looked around. Everyone was talking so no one should hear him.
"I never really had access to music besides the normal radio...", Damien confessed.
"But I remember a few names!", the boy said and then seemed deep in thoughts. "Uh... one was called... uh... High Hopes! And I'm not a piece of Cake!", Damien said, but had problems remembering anything else.

Virgil smiled. "Panic and Melanie Martinez, they're great. I can show you more songs by Melanie when we're back home, what do you think?", Virgil asked. As much as he wanted to show the boy Panic!at the Disco and MCR, he knew that some songs had words the eight year old shouldn't hear, or else Patton would probably kill him.

Damien nodded eagerly and then the bell rang.
The boy more or less focused on the lessons. However, the only really interesting part for the rest of the day was, when a girl had to walk up to the board.

"Can anyone solve this problem on their own?", the teacher asked, looking through the class. Of course Damien could do it, Logan has shown him how to solve those. But he definitely won't raise his hand and walk to the front. Nu uh. Never.
"Clara, yes", the teacher suddenly said, holding a piece of chalk ready.

A girl that sat on the desk next to Damien's stood up and walked to the front. She walked right through Virgil. As if he was simply air!
"God, I hate it when people do that", the Side said and shivered slightly. The girl didn't notice anything.

And Damien remembered that until now, when he was standing at the parking lot and waiting for his dad to arrive.
