Damien was Holding Thomas' hand when they opened the front door this time. It just felt safer. He was happy the teacher didn't call his Dad, even though he was innocent.
"We're back", Virgil announced. Everyone came to greet the three males and went on with their daily life. Virgil went to get himself some coffee, Thomas sat down at a table and pulled out his phone. Damien sat down on the sofa, ready to do his homework's.
Thomas looked through his photos when he saw the one he took yesterday. The one where all the sides sat in the kitchen with Damien, Roman on a chair like a normal person, Virgil and Damien on the counter and Logan and Patton, arguing about ice cream and popsicles. Thomas smiled and posted the picture on Twitter with the Caption A New Sanders Sides is coming soon!
He smiled and put the phone away. Damien was in the middle of his homework's so he didn't want to interrupt the boy. Instead, he started talking with the others about random things until they got interrupted by the door bell.
Damien's head perked up while Thomas went to open the door. When the person behind got visible, the man smiled brightly.
"Joan!"
Damien, not really liking the surprise visit of this stranger, quickly hid behind the couch. Thomas noticed.
The man smiled at his friend. "Joan, this is Damien", he said while walking behind the couch to comfort his son.
Joan waited patiently until Thomas has calmed the boy and they came out from behind the couch, even though Damien still hid behind Thomas' legs.
It didn't really help that the others were gone now, back in Thomas mind to help him make his decisions.
"Damien, this is Joan. They're a friend of mine."
The boy looked out of his hiding spot a little confused, which Joan noticed.
They crouched down a little to look a little less intimidating to the kid.
"I'm non-binary, that means I do t have a gender, that's why Thomas called me 'they', those are my pronouns"
Damien looked at them with big eyes, curious about what he had just learned.
"So y-you were born without a gender?"
"Not exactly. But sometimes, the body doesn't fit with the person. Then that person is transgender. That can be non binary, a boy in a girls body or a girl in a boys body"
Damien nodded interested.
By now, he even came out of his hiding spot and stood next to Thomas.
"And with that, he's part of the lgbt community!", Thomas said happily.
"What's lgbt?", Damien said, looking up at his father with a puzzled look.
"The lgbt community is about homosexuality. For example, I'm gay which means I like boys instead of girls"
Damien's eyes widen slightly and his face basically screams 'That's an option?'
Joan and Thomas both smiled at that and so the two adults explained to Damien the different sexualities that the boy asked about.
