"Hello?"

"Lu."

"Barbara?"

"Lucy!"

"Charlotte."

I sighed and stared at our surroundings. Well, I couldn't see much since we were still in the box.

Barb and I glanced at each other and nodded. Charlotte was shaking like she'd almost drowned in the pacific. Hehe.

Barb slowly opened the door and we went out. A shiver run down my spine when I saw the outside. It was so dark, I wouldn't be a me to see my own hand. The only thing that helped us was the light from the box.

A creepy feeling washed over me as I stared ahead. I must have been going crazy but one look at Barb told me I wasn't. Charlotte screamed.

"I-It's alive!!"

Sure enough, the darkness was alive. It was like the fog had a mind of its own. It kept moving towards us but once it reached the light, it hissed as if burned.

I slowly put on my torch and shone the light in a general direction. The darkness hissed and went back, creating a path way.

Barb and I took baby steps. I, slightly in front since I had the torch. After six steps, I heard a slam and turned towards the box. Charlotte had ran inside and shut the door.

"How long are you gonna stay in there?" I yelled.

"As long as whatever thing is out there goes. I'm not moving an inch." She yelled back.

I sighed but didn't push further. She could do whatever the hell she wanted. Barb and I continued walking until the darkness was behind us. If Charlotte changed her mind now, there was no way she could join.

A few more minutes and the light started blinking. I cursed and hit it to be stable but instead, it went off.

The darkness engulfed us, making it difficult to breath. I let out a gasp when I felt it crawling at us. It moved across our bodies, filling our ears, nose and mouths. I choked on the smoke and blanked out.

Or maybe I didn't.

It's hard to tell if black spots clouded my vision when all I saw was black any way.

I soon found myself floating. I could tell by the way the darkness carried me. It felt like I was surfing a crowd.
My body was immobile and I couldn't speak.

All of a sudden, it dropped me. This time, I was sure I could move because I screamed so loud it echoed back at me in full force. There was a point I wasn't even sure I was screaming or just hearing it.

My body dropped into a chair. I looked around and noticed that the darkness had disappeared. All that was left of it was white. And in that white was me, a chair, and an old man who kinda looked like he was the same age as Methuselah looking at me with annoyance.

He stretched out and I scrunched when I heard a loud crack. He looked back at me and grinned, showing his crocked teeth.

"Well then. Let's get this over with. How'd ya die?"

I stared at him with wide eyes. "W-What?"

He grumbled something under his breadth and waved. A screen popped out of no where and yawned. It actually yawned!

"Where am I?" I asked frantically, unable to move my body cause it was somehow stuck to the chair.

"Prinid Void. You're in the world between the living and dead. Souls that weren't meant to die are brought here to be reborn in order to complete their purpose in life." The computer answered.

"Call it fate. Call it destiny. I call bull. Idiot of a brother couldn't even get things straight. Always placing people in the wrong worlds at the wrong time and leaving me to clean his shit." The old man grumbled out.

I stared at him with my mouth agape. He ignored my reaction and nodded to the screen who huffed and spun, revealing the image of me entering the box. It showed how Buck(gonna kill that sun of a beach) pulled the lever and in a split second, the box disappeared.

The old man hummed and pulled on his very very very long beard. He turned towards me and stared. "Hmmm. So you didn't die." He mused and continued pulling his beard in that thoughtful manner.

"Instead, you were brought here." Still pulling it. He shot his eyebrows up and said.

"Interesting." My eyelid twitched.

Suddenly, he dropped the act and glared at nothing in particular but started cussing at someone who I suppose was his brother.

I sighed and rolled my eyes. He was getting really annoying. Three minutes later he paused and started laughing.

"Bipolar much?"

"More like multipolar." The screen retorted and moved it's body in a way that looked like it was rolling it's eyes.

"Listen human, it's quite unfortunate that you find yourself in this predicament. And to be honest, I don't give a fuck. I could care less what you mortals do in your time anyway. But being here in this void, it turns to get...boring. So here's what I'm going to do. I'll send you somewhere else so you could get reborn. Maybe even try something new when I'm at it."

I stared at him with wide eyes. "Y-you won't send me back?" I whispered in disbelief. Thank Kami!

"Kid, I recycle souls not bring them back to their original glory. Who do you think I am Jesus? I don't bring the dead to life."

"But I didn't die?"

"No. But your state is equivalent to death. Death is your soul leaving your body, your soul is here, your body is wherever but the big picture is that it's not in your body which makes you dead."

So much for sugar coating it. "Wait, so where exactly am I going?" He shrugged and turned to the screen.

"Good luck kid, I'll be watching from here. I hope you provide quality entertainment. And make sure you never wear that god awful dress you have on."

I stared down at my nightgown and blushed. It wasn't really the kind you'll want to be seen in public with. Barbara and I...wait. Barbara!

"Wait-"

"-Goodbye kid."

I didn't finish my sentence as I was pulled into another mass of light.

Upon all the years I've been in that orphanage. I've always dreamt of a day like this. A day when I'll finally be free from any sort of responsibility. I could go somewhere far from the church. What I hadn't dreamt of was that that day would occur in
